I would like to thank George ( Seoras the GSD's dad) for taking me out this morning with Sarand his 20 week old Harris Hawk.

The weather was absolutely fantastic as you can see from the photos.

This was the first time I had been out with a hawk and I thoroughly enjoyed it. She is a beautifully majestic creature and to see her fly free was a real thrill. It was strangely similar to walking a dog Confused She comes when called or whistled on in return for a food treat.

Apologies to George if I bored him with too many 'newbie' questions Embarassed

Stuart - the weather is tremendous today! From one extreme to another. Last week we were chittering walking round the glen.............. this afternoon we took the dogs up for a quick walk and it was like the middle of summer! Very Happy

I didn't notice he'd written 20 months!!!! I'll change it Very Happy He does know she's 20 weeks because that's what he told me yesterday ............ oh let me think ........... at least ................. 7 or 8 times ......... and I know how she eats, how she stores the food away and you see her chest puff out, then she regurgitates the parts of the food that are no good for her so that she doesn't eat anything unnecessary. I know that you fly her at certain times to ensure she will always come back i.e. not too hungry that she flies off in search of food and ignores you, or that she's not hungry enough to want to come back to you for food!
And other stuff. In fact as he nodded off to sleep last night his last words were, 'did you know I was out flying a Hawk today?'

Just in case you wondered ....................... he LOVED his morning. Laughing He said it was very relaxing and he learned loads about her.
Very Happy

Hi she is kept in an avery in the garden, during her first season she is teatherd to her perch as young harris can damage themselves easily, next year (jan) she will be free in her avery to go where she pleases.i'll stop boring you now Laughing Laughing
