I brought in two identical bones and gave them to each of my dogs. The collie cross (Selphie) dropped hers and ran over and grabbed the bone from the Staffy cross (Tifa). Every time Tifa goes for one bone Selphie stops what she is doing and growls at Tifa. Tifa stops eating the bone and walks away to try and get the other one and the circle begins again.

How do I get Selphie to share things with Tifa and to stop growling at Tifa?

Selphie is 17 months old and Tifa is 13 months old. We got them when they were 8 weeks old and Selphie took to Tifa really well. We tried separating them but Tifa gets upset and just sits near to were we put Selphie.

Any help would be great.

my two do this as well with toys and bones. This is just natural dominance behavior and I let my two get on with it. The less dominant dog of the moment will give up the prize. I Encourage the natural pack order in the house by putting bob's dinner down first and handing out treats to him first. I would let them get on with it - unless it looks like some one will get hurt.

When you have two dogs it is a good idea to get the mused to being separated........the longer you wait the more difficult it will be.

As for bones, this is one of the most common triggers for a fight, so tread carefully. The more dominant dog will expect to be able to take anything it pleases......but the other may object....the growl is a warning.

yip just let them get on with it and keep an eye on them so no fights break out, once the more dominante out of the two is finished with the bones the other will get it's turn to have a chew.

Thanks guys I was getting really worried. I gave them both the bones and then clapped them both for half a minute. They don't growl anymore. Not sure if that's what you should do but it stops them growling.
