Raw - How much too feed?

Raw does sound great, but how much would Bear need? He is on smaller feeds but when swimming he needs a little bit more as he needs so much more energy!! Also has anyone had a fussy eater (nightmares that they are) that has taken to raw? My other dog kinda grazes at food won't eat more than wee bits at a time worried about it going off!

I feed roughly 3% of my dogs ideal body weight this can be found on breed dooks or ask the vet, also I go on how they look ie. too skinny a bit more to fat less. Dora was never a fussy eater but didn't always finish her food now every last drop is eaten and she is mooching about for more, form what others have said RAW seems to agree with the fussy eaters and they seem to finish the lot. Have a look through the "diet and nutrition Section" for advice on RAW it has some good links to other sites for more info

Jenny,
when switching most people fret about how much to feed...I know I did. The general rule of thumb is 2-3% of the desired body weight..........but you quickly relax and when you see your dog putting on weight you cut back a little and if they look thin you increase.....you will quickly learn to trust your own judgment.
Lots of fussy eaters thrive on raw..........commercial dog food is not generally tasty, hence all the additives to try and make it palatable............as an experiment buy some cheap Tesco value mince and put it down........you will quickly see whether your dog approves or not Smile

Jenny i brought the Tesco value mince for Skye to see how she would take to raw...she loved it!
She is now converted and as Lindy said there is never even the tiniest amount left in their bowls.... Very Happy

Thanks for your help with this, she won't eat raw mince two mouthfuls then went away and Bear finished it for her. She eats cooked mince if there are left overs when we have it. Will have to get Bear to vets for a weight check so I can work out % calculator at the ready. Will persevere with Madam see how she goes although she is the most stubborn dog around Embarassed

Marcella now I have finished hyperventilating ME on scales NOT!!!!!!!!!! Think I'll buy some bring them and video camera up on Sunday and you can weigh Bear and I'll post on you tube hee hee. Laughing

Vets will weigh him for free as they need to check is weight for wormers Kendal. I can weigh other one using Marcella's method- well almost Hubby does it as I don't do scales, the shock could do me serious mental harm. Still think I should get Marcella to weigh him as it would be soooo Funny hello1

gypsy was a bit funny at first with raw but then she is a bit of a funny bu&&er at times...................what i did was brown the raw first and it was scoffed! on the following nights i did the same but browned it less each time and now she is on raw and loves it! Smile
