what is causing this - how can this be stopped.

He is still also pooing inside the house but not in his own space of the kitchen

i say crate him!!!!!!!!!!!! he doesn't soil in the kitchen which he is assuming is his space ! but once he's outwith his area he thinks it's time to relieve himself!

crating him and when he comes out take him straight outside and encourage him to pee pee etc! only bring him inside when he has performed!

if nothing then returned to the crate for 5 mins and repeat the process! he will soon learn!

that's what we had to do with inca in particular!

Janis is right. He see's the kitchen as his den therefore not doing it there.
A crate is the best idea here. Either that or she has to have eyes like a hawk and watch his every move the minute he leaves the kitchen!!!!
As Janis said she needs to get him outside until he's done his business, with loads of praise when he does.
If she does go with a crate, perhaps trying it in a room other than the kitchen !!

Guys,

the problem is she does take him out into the garden and for walks. But he comes back in and poos in the house

How does she stop the marking - it is just wee penny size pees he is doing?

I dont know what to say to her I have only ever had one pup and she house trained within a few days, we lived in a flat at the time and the wee soul used the papers and after that never had any accidents.

So this is new territory to me Shocked

remember he is only 12weeks and still young so these things will happen, crate him defo and she will just have to persevere with taking him outside and stay there till he dose something.

Kirsty, puppies will pee a million times a day. nothing short of taking him into the garden every time he wakes up and every time he wanders around sniffing .......... those are usually times when a puppy will piddle. It does mean constant garden trips but it's the only way.

The greyhound folk on the american board im on, have a technique called the umbilical technique and it reguires you having the puppy attached to you by a longer leads and watching every move and crating them when you cant, like making dinner or whatever else, I will look out the post, I think it normally takes 3 days for a greyhound to be completly pee free in this time...it is hard work but for those 3 days it means a whole lot less in the long run

I know exactly how your friend feels Sad Sad

I'm having a bad day!!

I feel as if it's one step forward and five steps back. Millie and Poppy will do their business outside, when they go ( and lately I've been out and in so often I'm thinking of taking the door off and putting in a turn-style!!) In the beginning we used paper at the front door, over tiles and it wasn't too bad. When we took it away, they still want to go there. The smell is driving me mad Evil or Very Mad (My hubby says I'm imagining it Confused )

We do the whole big praise thing and a treat, but will they ever catch on???

I am constantly mopping and cleaning: i think the fumes are beginning to take their toll laughing5

I'm running out of patience...any advice Laughing Shocked Confused

Awww i can sympathise here as can most. Audrey it will pay off soon. We dont have a garden so it meant I had to run down the stairs to outside alllll the time with Holly.... after she woke up, after she ate, when she was sniffing about... why im not skinny after doing all of that I'll never know. It can just take a while, but its a great feeling when you finally get there! Very Happy

Thanks Sad

This might be a stupid question but how long should it take?
We've had the pups for about 6 weeks now. They are 14 weeks, which is young I know...but it's taking it's toll. I take them out first thing, after food, after a nap, in fact I'm out and in like a yo-yo

Confused

it depends really ........... no set time it can vary. We found that when we had our bitch she was much longer to house train the the dogs we've had. Confused In fact it took about 8 months for her to be completely accident free!!!! Shocked But the two we have now were house trained pretty quick. Murphy was really quick but I think having Diesel already helped that, he showed him the way! Smile

Just heap praise on them when they do it outside and perhaps treat them too when they pee in the garden. What we used was a command to help teach them, we used the word 'clean' when we took them outside and then clapped and cheered likes loonies when they did it right!!!! Embarassed
They soon picked up on it!

It will seem so much harder for you because you are dealing with 2 at the same time! Shocked
