Bear did it again He tried to mount Roddy during sit stay I have been trying to research this in books and www as don't really want to get him fixed for now. It seems as he keeps doing it with males that it could be a dominance issue! Was wondering what you all think about that and any solutions other than losing his bits would be gratefully received - especially from Bear |

I was mounted twice while playing with Otto on the floor - gross! It was his chance to dominate me and he took it. Didn't try it if I was higher than him.
Just do the pack order stuff I guess and correct it...but we had Otto 'done'. Not for that though. |

Suzanne trying to work on it but problem is he only seems to do it when he's at training and i'm out of room during stay. Also need to find another male dog who's owner and dog wouldn't object to working with him till he gets the message!!!!
Has Otto put weight on since he was done? |

Hi Jenny, don't know if all dogs put on weight but we had Mylo done and we feed him as normal he gets more exercise now that we have joined the training classes and walks though, and he has lost weight rather than putting it on so maybe putting weight on doesn't happen to them all. |

Lots of people who have dogs done have said about the weight thing and Bear is very good at sneaking treats from hubby/my son and his pals. He is couch potatoe alot of newfies are, so dislikes exercise. He won't be fully grown till he's 3 and I worry about over doing exercise and straining joints once he returns to swimming he'll be better. His coat will change too if he's done. He can't do stud either so would like to see if I can train it out of him first and if not then he will get CHOP |

We struggle to keep weight ON Otto as he's got a lot of energy. Just the breed he is.
I've not noticed any difference in him at all, but then it's only been a month. I think it's a myth though. If they're getting the right amount of food/exercise they won't put on weight.
We just judge his food by how he looks - he was looking a bit skinny so upped it and he was soon looking ok. |

Mylo did do the same as Bear for a while when he wasn't done, we just ignored the behavior and didn't bring any attention to it at all and he just stopped doing it and that was before we got him done. Don't know if that was the correct thing to do as Mylo is a dominant dog. |

Suzanne the humans in this house (not me I'm perfect ) are untrainable so as careful as I am they sneakily feed dogs treats as soon as i turn my back, so it's very hard
It is the training issue I need ideas/help with. he isn't dominant in house or on walks just seems to happen at training with the other dogs. |

My mother in law is terrible, she'd be giving him biscuits and cakes. But we're quite good at at not giving him too much human food.
He gets treats, like a mini peanut butter sarnie in his kong, pigs lugs, bananas, spare rice. but he also doesn't have a backside to sit on so it's soon used up!
When I read in the GSP book that having one is like having a permanent shadow I didn't know how true it was. If we didn't have a crate or shut doors, we'd be haunted 24/7! |

Our Danes have all been fine after the snip. Weigh gain has not been a problem.
Trish would be able to advise you re Newfies. What about working with Trish's dog? She has lots of experience.
Bear is at the age where he is likely to do this behaviour to assert himself with other dogs. _________________ Regards,

My boy dog dare do this while i were painting the skirting boards.
In return he received an elbow in his ribs an my scariest face screaming at him blue murder untill his legs were just an inch tall.
He wont ever risk that move on me again, but you cant knock a dog for trying though.....lol
