Well... Holly gets spayed a week tomorrow and I am getting really nervous. I asked for Graham Leathers.... do you think that was the right choice? I just always feel comfortable with him, and he always seems to really care!
I know they will discuss what i should expect with me once she's had the op, but oh god im so nervous!
I know little Cavs can often have problems with their heart, and so this really worries me.
I'm being ridiculous i know!
Wanted to get her spayed before her first season, and so hopefully she doesnt come into that in the next week!
I may cry when we drop her off! _________________ Ashley with Holly & Murphy.
I hope to one day be as great as my dog thinks I am right now!! |

Aww, Ashley, good luck to her!
I am sure she will be just fine, she will be in good hands. She is such a wee doll though, it will be scary!

Ashley
During Mandy's spaying op her heart rate plummeted when they put her under the anesthetic and they immediately aborted the procedure and successfully revived her with no ill effects. They gave me a lot of information and I felt that if they had not been so attentive, the outcome would have been very bad.
She eventually had her op done some weeks later at Falkirk, where they had special monitors etc, using a different drug to put her under. It was problem free. When she had her teeth cleaned recently they were happy to discuss her previous history with me and to put my mind at rest that they were fully aware of potential problems.
I know you will be worried sick about Holly, but I assure you she will be in excellent hands. Graham Leathers in a first class vet and you will soon have her home for lots of tlc. _________________ "My little dog - a heartbeat at my feet" - Edith Wharton |

Good luck to wee Holly for her op, she will be fine I'm sure.
But I know how you feel Ashley!
Hektor has to go in on Tuesday to get the 'mystery' lump removed from his neck. I am feeling ill at the thought! It will be his first proper anaesthetic. |

I am sure she will be fine Ashley, it is always a worry when they have to go under anesthetic, I have had three dogs in the past and they have all came out just fine, she will be in good hands.

Ashley,
best thing for her, they can be miserable when they are in season - and if you dont want to breed her then its best not to put her through all that. |

No no, I wouldn't be breeding from her, god not only does her being pregnant worry me more than her being spayed, but she is also not to breed standards with regards to her coat! Signed to say she wouldn't be bred from.
I had just had a look back at the topic a while ago about when was best for bitches to be spayed, and thought I'd take the plunge, although nervous, I hope I have made the right decision.
How long does it usually take for them to recover? We've been trying to work out our days off so she has as much time supervised by us after the op. I might also get my mum or brother to come over and watch her... just dont want her being alone during her recovery period... don;t think it would be advisable either since she'll have stitches! _________________ Ashley with Holly & Murphy.

Ashley, I gone through this with lots of Beagles. I think we owners worry much more than they do. Holly will be fine. He is a caring vet who will look after her. She is a wee darling.
All of mine have been fine recovering in a few days. Vet will tell you how long before Holly can go out walking. All mine wanted to head straight out and run around like loonies. The hardest thing I found was keeping them resting.
John still tells Misty to show him her scar when he wants her to roll over on her back. Silly bitch still does it too. _________________ Regards,
