How can I stop this - I don't think he'd ever catch them, but he goes some distance away before responding to the recall. Just worried he'd be classifed a "dangerous dog".
You never know when they're going to pop up so other than keeping him on the long line just in case....
Even though he's encouraged to stay close by off the lead, he smells them before he sees them. |

that's a difficult one Suzanne ............ Murphy will do the same given half a chance. I just try to keep a close eye on him when in an area that there may be deer.
He has run off into the trees and disappeared for 10 minutes at a time before coming back so I watch him and if I see him lift his head and sniff about I pop him back on lead. |

Yeah that was my thinking too.
He did it while on holiday, and what halfway up the next mountain. He came back when called, but I had to holler and he ran all the way back like it was no effort. Gotta admire the dog's stamina! |

oh aye .......... Murphy is the same. He runs like the wind and jumps fences like they're only a foot high When I yell at him (and it can be quite loud ) he usually comes back running like a race horse! |

She's not joking... just ask the folk who were on the Rowardennan walk that time... _________________ Dogs are the leaders of the planet.
If you saw two living creatures, one of them does a poo and the other carries it for him, who would YOU think was in charge?

Funny how me and jack and deb were a good bit behind and our dogs came running back to us like 'what the h3!! was that '
Dont think you can stop it other than what Marcella says, keep eye on areas where there might me a problem. I know if Pixel seen them she would probably catch up, its what would happen after that and it scares me too, the thought of her off after them _________________ lurchers Pixel and Zev and whippet, Fen

We have tried to expose him to animals and teach him manners....ie he can greet cows and sheep at the fence, but if he gets too bouncy, he's removed.
By the way, I had to shout loud enough to reach a neighbouring mountain. Maybe we can how a "loudest command" session at training tonight. Or take up yodelling |
