|
|
I was wondering if anyone has heard of his. I was discussing options for and against neutering with Cuthbert's vet the other day who suggested a trial course of hormone tablets which would mimic the effect of neutering to see how he would behave if he was neutered. This would only be temporary and if there was no noticeable effect then we would know that neutering would not be of any value but also if there was then it would be worth considering. I have never heard of this before and wondered if anyone else has. _________________ Happiness is watching my dog chase leaves dancing in the breeze. |

i suspect it is very much like the female hormone to prevent pregnancy!..............i am not for any of these and feel that unless you have the intention to breed then it is better for the dog to be neutered or spayed! _________________ Cockapoo's...a little of this, a little of that..........

Im with u janis i think the best thing is to get the knackers off and let the dog relax. If theres no intention to breed its not fair on the animal |

a polite way to describe it michael!.............however on a serious note i just don't like the idea of pumping an animal or human for that matter with drugs! _________________ Cockapoo's...a little of this, a little of that..........

I too agree with Janis. Any dog which is not going to be bred should be neutered.
Accidents are best prevented. Too many dogs are unwanted and puppies destroyed because they were not planned. Your dog could catch a bitch in heat and oops! My Samson escaped some years back, and got to a Boxer bitch - the resulting Dane/boxer puppies were lovely but the bitch's owner wanted to present me with all of them. It was not an easy time finding homes for so many cross pups. I have always neutered my dogs since.
Unnecessary drugs are not something I would want to use either. _________________ Regards,

I'm against it purely for the reason when a dogs testes are removed (sorry boys!) it takes up to and sometimes more than 6 months for the testosterone to work it's way out of their bodies therefore even after neutering it can take 6 months and sometimes even longer for the true effects to become evident/noticeable. This would mean for these injections to give any sort of true indication as to the long terms effect of neutering you would need to subject your dog to them for a minimum of 6 months. Either you want to breed from your dog or not and if not then I would recommend neutering. It's purely my personal opinion but I do think it's unfair to allow your dog to be entire but deny him the outlet for his natural urges. Frustration can very very easily turn to aggression. _________________ Staffies are my life! Visit us at www.staffies.co.uk |

i have always been advised that if you are not going to breed your dog/bitch then have them neutered at 5 and a half months and that way you catch them before they hit the hormonal teenage years! _________________ Cockapoo's...a little of this, a little of that..........

Oscar's already been done
We're now waiting on Kodi to have her bleed and then we'll get her done only because it's hard keeping her on leash at this time she really needs a lot of off leash exercise and i don't want any unplanned pups(coz i would want to keep allllllll of them )
I would'nt give her or Oscar any medication at all that wasn't necessary......... but it is an individuals choice which i respect

MMm I have read lots and lots of different opinions on this as trying to decide myself, some articles advise that if you are going to neuter males then you should wait until after a year old as they need the hormones to mature mentally. _________________ Grace & Dexter |

Well our pup was done at 11 months. If it was not for the fact that he had an undescended testes I doubt we would have got him done at all. The vets kept harping on and on about it - they wore me down Given a choice again I would get him done at around 7-8 months as his hormones went haywire for about 6 weeks after it was done. Good old evening primrose saved the day

We had Buster done when he was about nine months old, we had a dog years ago who had cancer the vet said that if he had been neutered when he was young he would probably not have contracted it. |

You do do away with the risk of testicular cancer in males, mammary cancer risk is hugely reduced in males and females and also the risk of pyometra disappears completely.
I personally think it's the responsible thing to do if you are not breeding from them (not that I'm knocking those that think otherwise) and whatever sex of dog I have I'll always get it done. I've seen how my girls suffer with their seasons as well and wouldn't ever inflict that upon a dog I didn't wish to breed from, seeing as how I can't ever see me breeding from my dogs now or in the future it's a no brainer for me. _________________ Staffies are my life! This gives information about the hormone treatment in question.
