Hektor now has sore feet. They are not bleeding but are very tender when he is walking on concrete. He's walking fine indoors and on grass.

Its strange, its almost like the pads are being renewed and the old ones are peeling away. He hasn't been standing in anything he shouldnt, the grit hasn't been on the paths, I havent changed my floor cleaner.

I assume that their pads will be 'growing' all the time and that constant walking around sloughs off the old skin gradually. Maybe because he was ill and lying around for nearly a week this hasnt happened...

Anyone any ideas?

Just a thought but are you sure it's the pads and not e.g his back but the pain making him limp due to shock absorbency not being quite spot on? Other than that sorry but I have no ideas.

When I touch his feet he is flinching and there are areas which appear to be peeling Sad They are not cracked though

I took him up the field to get rid of some excess energy and he was running and leaping around like normal...wierd dog!

When the weather gets worse the salt that is put down can cause problems.........could even be that he has stood on some spilled diesel fuel when walking........you really are not getting a break Lisa!

Poor puppy!!!!!

Bathe in lukewarm saltwater (perhaps with a dash of cider vinegar), pat dry then massage Savlon, E45, Sudacrem or similar gently into his pads. It will speed up the healing and re-growth process and make him less uncomfortable. Easier said than done but TRY not to walk him on hard surfaces until they have started healing a bit. Kisses to the poor boy please Lisa.xxx

Have discovered that the Bin lorry was leaking diesel or some other fluid on Wed when they came round. I expect that is what he has stood in as his feet started getting sore on Wed Mad

Glad you identified the probable cause Lisa - bathing and applying one of the above creams will definately help him both with his sore pads and by getting rid of the nasty chemicals so they can't seep into his system and cause other damage.

Hope his feet are getting better now.xxx
