Well you're in good company babe because when Ella goes - no-one else would pick up on the signs but I have watched her like a hawk since she started exhibiting aggression rather than "normal" play towards the cats (right from puppyhood she hated them - she's not a dog to be told off by any other animal and she too holds a grudge - forEVER! ). If I wasn't as watchful and now so instinctive with her I wouldn't know when to watch either but I can tell from the slightest thing, a quiver of a muscle, a hair moving, her stance, her tension, a look, whatever it might be I see it and I am there snapping her out of it before she's had chance to get going. I do have the bonus of course of KNOWING the things she is more likely to be edgy over, treats & cats being the main culprits but she doesn't always react to the triggers and she doesn't always show the same signs, which I guess is what made me pay even MORE attention and made me ever more determined to understand and lead her - she still tries it on occassionally but since reaching the grand old age of 6 she calmed down considerably and having her speyed made a huge difference to her too. Mostly ours get on fabulously well - they're always playing and cuddling up together - so long as I don't rattle the treat cupboard Part pure luck, part careful planning on our part as regards types of personalities and the intro's we made as well as the very very firm boundaries we laid down from the very outset.
I guess with dogs, as with humans, sometimes they can take a real dislike to each other and not even know why all we can ever do is try and deal with things as we go along.
Sounds to me as if you've made MASSIVE progress hunny - and I am positive that having them both neutered will have helped considerably. YOU have 2 Alpha dogs - I've just got the one - but boy does she she know it!!!! Don't tell her but she's the absolute apple of my eye and part o her charm IS her incredibly wilful bolshie streak - we rarely see the bad side of her - usually it's just complete mischief that has us in absolute fits of laughter - that girl REALLY KNOWS how to work it baby!
PS.......makes sense that you snap Keano out of his moods easier than Coby. Staffs are so human focussed they do generally respond better - Collies meanwhile have selective hearing as I'm sure many an owner would testify _________________ Staffies are my life! Visit us at www.staffies.co.uk |

It's ALWAYS the naughty ones that creep deep into our hearts isn't it? I don't show THEM favouritism I try my hardest to treat them all equally but DO make allowances for Rosie's blatant stupidity - seriously Sheryl - if you knew her you wouldn't question it - seeing REALLY is believing with my Red piggy
No prizes for guessing which of the bad boys would worm his way deepest into my affections then!!!!
I think the trick is to just take each day as it comes and treat every one that passes without incident as a HUGE bonus - shock of shocks - Ella has actually allowed Sam my old tomcat to share her bed at least 3 times this week so far!!!! I wouldn't have allowed this even up to just 6 months ago. She's currently lying with her back to him - previously she would have moved or got onto the bed and stared him out til he was so intimidated he'd run off - movement would then encourage her to chase and try and eat him so I always used to shoo him off - now I force her to SHARE but watch her body language - if she tenses up she gets called to me immediately and made to sit at my feet until she has chilled out again. ANOTHER shock - Sam has just moved and she didn't even bat an eyelid - he's cuddled up closer to her I do actually think I am going into shock over this - little madame is watching me now as if to say......I've been a good girl mummy NOW can I eat him please? _________________ Staffies are my life! Little minx is being utterly adorably angelic tonight so I am now going to zip it because the last time I waxed lyrical over how good her behaviour had become she let me down by trying to eat a cat (Sam actually) - she didn't get anywhere near him as I screamed my head off at her but I was sooo disappointed in her! _________________ Staffies are my life!
