Hi there, I'm louise currently owned by Bailey! (lab springer cross) who is 12 weeks. Love Reading posts here lots of advice and support, you are all so friendly too! Looking forward to meeting you at classes, but will have to wait a while as Bailey was hit by a car at 9 weeks and has a fractured pelvis. He has been cage rested for 2 weeks and now is only allowed gentle exercise (try telling him that!) vet says can't start classes for another 7 weeks. Having trouble with him biting ( especially me) my hubby says no and he stops it doesn't work for me even though I am strict with him, have tried holding his jaw but he just comes back for more. Feel sorry for him cos he must be bored and have energy to burn but can't have him biting either any advice would be welcome. Would I be able to come up to a class without bailey to have a look and chat? Thanks, louise

Welcome Louise,

I'm sure after Baileys difficult start in life he will go from strength to strength.

The biting is probably pent up energy as you say......a firm 'no' and ignore him for a few minutes after a bite is the best way .

John

Hiya Louise, welcome to you & Bailey (LOVING that name!)

So sorry to hear about his accident - hope he continues to heal well - kisses to him to speed him on his way.

I'm Jackie but everyone calls me Jack, always have. I have 2 Staffie girls Ella & Rosie and a little cross Staffie boy called Sykes.

The biting - the reason he does it to you and persists is that he's not taking you seriously when you correct him. As sorry as you feel for him you mustn't let him know or see that - when he bites instruct him "NO" in a deeper toned and louder (but not shouty) voice than you would normally use - make it as gutteral as you can - almost growl like and he'll get the message MUCH quicker. Hubby will have a deeper voice which will be more growl like to Bailey's ears and so he'll instictively take the correction from him - you need to mimick the same so he learns from you too - give it a try - if it works on Staffies it'll work on anything!!!! Very Happy

I hope that you and Bailey enjoyed you first training class last night?
Bailey seems to be a happy, confident active puppy after his challenging start to life.
