My sister and my mum were in Glasgow today and the Dogs Trust has a caravan outside Marks and Spencer in Argyle Street, The chap in the caravan told them that they are full with dogs from Christmas that people don't want anymore. They have also seen a surge in numbers of (i think ) Yorkshire Terriers because they are not fashionable anymore!

I spoke to the Dogs Trust rep in Tesco Craigmarloch where they were trying to sign people up to sponsor a dog........they also said that they could not cope with the number of dogs.........

It is such a shame, i'd have to be living in a box before I gave my two up, even then I wouldn't. Hopefully they will be able to get some of them new homes. I think I might pop down there at the weekend and hand some food in.

Dogs Trust will be getting all of Tillys food that she can no longer eat, about 15tins worth.

I'm with you Isabel. I'd live on the streets with my pack before I'd give them up. They are mine FOR LIFE and I cannot think of anything that would make me give them up voluntarily or without a fight, no matter how desperate things might get.n I have gone hungry before so my animals could eat and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Colin and I have been horrified by how many dogs are needing homes, seemingly the VAST majority of them Staffies or Staffy X's. I find it too upsetting to look at these sites.

Hektor has his issues but I could NEVER get rid of him. I feel so sorry for people who, through unexpected ill health are unable to give their dogs what they need and have to give them up. So sad. Sad

Lisa......even with ill health I don't think I could EVER give mine up - even if it was in their best interests - probably completely selfish on my part but I just couldn't do it. I'm not judging those who do so please don't think I am, I'm just being honest and saying even in those circumstances I don't think I could even consider it.

Ross.......Staffies are the most loyal and loving pets BUT they ARE boisterous and they DO need to be brought up correctly or some people cannot cope with them. Some are abandoned for this reason, some because their "owners" brought them to improve their own tiny penis hard man image but when the dogs exhibit nothing but love for humans and fail to attack or be intimidating they are considered worthless so cast aside without a second thought. Some are used as puppy machines, there's a glut of novice breeders out there all thinking they can make a fast buck and HUGE numbers of Staffie pups are being left unsold and therefore abandoned. Some are used for fighting and discarded when injured or not "up to scratch" the list is bl00dy endless and it boils my pee BIG style!!!! Evil or Very Mad

Like Lisa said ,we have been looking at the rehoming sites as i fancy a terrier type dog (like a patterdale or similar) to go in the van with me for company (just like Ollie did) but all i can see is Staffy after Staffy , with the odd collie or yorkie (not the terrier i had in mind) its terrible seeing these dogs that have been mistaken for vicious weapons by the young fraternity getting thrown on the scrap heap, most of them very nice, well fed looking dogs being put up for adoption with little or no chance of getting a home in the near future.
These dogs are just now left to be another painful statistic of our youth culture......
I just wish i had a farm then i could take more !!!!

Colin, have you checked out Barney? He is currently with the Great Danes in SGDR as his owner couldn't get him into Dog's Trust and we couldn't see him put down. He should get on with Hector.
