I need some inspiration

I'm need some inspiration for a name for the new puppy that is coming home in a month.

I had wanted to call him Rudi, but a member of my team at work has called her son that and wasn't overly enthused when I brought it up. So in the interest of not being an evil boss it's probably not a goer. Same thing happened with Otto, we wanted to call him Jasper but our Dutch friends' grandchild got in first.

For inspiration, new dog will be pretty much same as old dog. The teenager wants to call him Kaiser (no!) and Ian thinks it would be funny to call it Riz (think about it...)

I LOVE Barney for boy dogs. I tend to avoid "Butch" names as they just project the wrong image of any dog breed.

It's really really hard though, I could spend all day writing down names but I actually agree with John - you'll KNOW the right name when it hits you and you find it suits him (much as with children)

Sorry but if I was dead set on Rudi then I'd stick with it whether or not someone else had named their child that - oh I swore stupid naming your kid after a dog mind!

I will just tell her I called him Fred if the new pup looks like a Rudi. He might not though...we only thought of Otto after we met him and it suits him. I've seen the puppies but they were too young to choose. Will go back in a couple of weeks.

Two of the pups are more or less 100% brown

Wolf? Janis, you've met him....he's just so NOT cool and dignified enough to be a Wolf. Coco the Clown would be more appropriate (which would be a good name if we were getting a lady) - I quite fancied a lady, but Ian reckoned one dominant bi7ch in the house was enough. Such a charmer!!)

I know how you feel, I'm having the same trouble at the moment for the new one.
Its even worse when you make a short list + can't choose from it

I like Rudi - it doesn't really matter if her child's called that - think how many other people/pets have the name Rudi around the world

Chose my new puppy yesterday (I chose Otto so was left to my own option on this one too haha). The one I really liked was a sweet quiet brown boy, but the breeder recommended one that was a little more outgoing given that his big brother is hardly quiet and retiring.

She felt the one she recommended would actually do better with another dog, specially given Otto has no problems with other dogs. He had no problems with the puppies either, was in sniffing them

Given they've not really done much in my presence, I went with her advice. The one we went with has a twinkle in his eye and was happy to be held and roll over and have his tummy rubbed, but was playful with it.

It's so hard, I could have taken them all home. I like the speckling, Ian likes the all brown.

Ian's favourites are Berger which is German for mountain or Jaeger which is German for hunting.

Mine are Bruno (German for brown haired) and Ferdinand (Ferdy for short)....

But we're not agreeing. Thank god it's only a dog who won't care what he's called or what he looks like!!! I don't remember it being this hard last time.

Jaeger and Berger sound too much like "dinner!", always try to choose a name that sounds nothing like any command or regularly used word

I think Bruno is the best option

Our friends called there collie Kyle, which our son Kyle finds very amusing. Gets kind of amusing when we are in their company as to who responds first dog or child when a request is made. I wouldn't worry about it too much if you only see this person at work and the name hits you as the correct one for your new puppy. We initially thought Kyle was a strange choice for a dog, but everyone to their own. Rudi sounds like a great name for a dog, short and succinct- which they say makes for easier training.

the Teenager wants Kaiser after his hero, Franz Beckenbauer, but it doesn't strike me as a pointer name...more German Shepherd than German short-haired pointer.

I liked Otis, but it's too similar to Otto (he responded to it haha)

Otto was just right because it wasn't TOO masculine, because let's face it, with his floppy lugs, shapely thighs, and sunny personality, he's not exactly macho, but he's not exactly a girly type of dog either.

Right, have decided. he's going to be called Rudi and I'll just have pretend he's called Bert at work so as not to offend my colleague who's called her son the same thing.

We just couldn't find another one we all agreed on....the name just suits the type and personality of the breed.
