Limited Exercise

I've been taking my puppy round Broadwood Loch about 4 times a week, I think its about 2.3 miles in all, is this too much for her? She seems to cope with it ok! In fact she still has loads of energy at the end of the walk Laughing

the exercise restriction is mainly for large dog who are likely to have joint problems.

Ours are classified large dogs and my rule of thumb is 5 mins per month of their age twice a day until they're one.

so our 4 month old pup gets 20 mins twice a day. He sometimes get 30-40 mins in one session at the weekend but on the lead - it's to get him used to the outdoors and recall, but he's well rested afterwards.

If he's been running around with the big dog, he only gets out once. Our older dog didn't get hill walking or cycling until he was one.

there are other ways to tire out rambunctious puppies - I hide food in the garden or just do some training with him. But they will go all day, I have to put mine in his crate to get him to calm down.

It is good to remember that just because they can run all day doesn't mean they should. 5 minutes per month was our rule. Playing and training time doesn't count as exercise.

That is so true. Ours would go all day - he doesn't know when he's tired but they just get cranky if you don't put them in the crate regularly. Just like babies, you have to make them lie down.
