I think IF he is guilty he should have died in jail. It wouldnt be heard of letting Peter Tobin or Myra Hyndlay out would it?

However, saying that I'm not 100% he is guilty.

But as it stands just now, in the eyes of the law he is, it's just a shame it may be the end of the appeal/enquiry so we might never know the whole truth.

I think it was a mistake to release him too, it's unfair on the families of those affected.

Well, I bet that Garry MacKinnon guy (apsergers bloke who hacked into the Pentagon) isn't feeling too lucky right now.

Pretty much no chance of him getting let off the hook now.

Obama's gonna throw him in jail forever.

I am ashamed to be Scottish at the moment. The sight of the Libian people waving Saltire flags and giving that monster a heros welcome was sickening.

I am very proud to be Scottish. Any civilized society is judged by the quality of mercy it shows. The evidence against this man is doubtful - the UK relatives of the victims are doubtful of his guilt and a spokesperson for them expressed his support for the action.

By law in Scotland anyone who has less than 3 months to live can be released where recommended so the they can die with their family. This is a measure of our humanity.

He believes that he will face a much stricter judge within a very short time.

As someone who in legal issues is a 'layman' I have to trust the judgment of the judiciary......he was found guilty on the evidence put before the Court and also the appeal Court, this is a trust i do not have for politicians of any party.

As for relatives doubting the Court judgment? Why should that influence the best legal minds in our country? If I chooserightly or wrongly to doubt any particular judgement is that a valid reason to free a convicted criminal?

as it stands this man is convicted of killing almost 300 innocent people......the sight of him arriving in Lybia to cheering crowds ( where do you buy a Saltire in Tripoli?) was nauseating in the extreme.

just my opinion.

You know, this is such a tricky one.

There are serious doubts to the guys guilt.

I found this article interesting: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdelbaset_Ali_Mohmed_Al_Megrahi?wasRedirected=true

Can't help think this guy was a scape goat to keep the Americans happy.

For the sake of his family I think it's right that he gets to spend his last few days with them because he might be innocent. However if Sam was a victim of the tragedy I might not care and want him to die in jail.

Also, as an aside, as someone who's sat on 2 juries I'd be terrified if I ever found that my fate lay in the hands of a jury of my 'peers'. I couldn't believe the idiots and Jeremy Kyle rejects that were deciding the accused's fate (myself excluded of course).

Gary picked the wrong target Steve, I mean hacking into the Pentagon computer network is a silly idea, he should have just made enquiries at the tube station for any missing laptops

This whole episode is not about the man's guilt. Whether you have doubts that he committed the crime or not, is not the issue. He was found guilty and supposed to serving a life sentence. He served 8 years. He now gets to die with his family and friends a hero in the eyes of his country, despite the fact he caused the terrifying and horrific death of almost 300 people.

Agreed, guilt is not the issue.

The reception the guy received was a disgrace.

Now it looks like there's a real anti-Scotland (and UK) campaign happening in the US. Trying to get everyone to boycott anything Scottish.

This was far too big a decision for one man to make and the ramifications are huge.

He was found guilty for political reasons and released for political reasons....Libya has only explored 25% of its massive land mass and the world is running out of oil.

The Americans just have to make a big show for the voters and throw their weight around. And Broon is keeping his gob shut and hoping no one notices that he probably also gave it the thumbs up for political reasons.

If someone I loved had been killed, I wouldn't see much benefit in keeping them in jail to the bitter end, plus palliative care is very expensive - let Libya pay for it.

I for one feel proud to be part of a country that can show mercy and doesn't keep their prisoners locked up on an island without trial or fry them.

Sorry Lorna, on this we disagree. I respect you AND your humanity hugely but to me Life should MEAN life. I'd like to see the sentences handed down actually stuck to for a change.
