Hello!

We are *points at forum name*. We have a lovely young German Shepherd lady named Gypsy. We got her from the SSPCA end of april this year.

We are currently looking for a suitable dog training class and are happy for any advice concerning doggietraining, exchanging fun stories and maybe in the long run even joint walks with other dogs, since Gypsy (and us I guess) have a lot to learn yet, especially about manners towards other dogs and how to be a pack! Laughing

*points downwards* that is her, she stole our heart, now we need to make sure she doesn't bounce on it Rolling Eyes

My Great Danes and I would love to see you at training and I am sure you would enjoy walks with the club. Gypsy looks gorgeous. I can see why she stole your heart.

Hello and Welcome, we have Hektor, a 2 year old Great Dane. Gypsy is lovely!

Is it Blackwood near Kirkmuirhill where you stay or the one in Cumbernauld? I only ask cos my husband is from there and his parents are still there. Smile

thank you so very much for the warm welcome everyone!

Lisa/Colin: it is in deed near kirkm.... however it is spelled Wink do your parents have dogs? maybe gypsy barked at them already!

at the moment we are a bit hesitant about going to a class with gypsy as she developed an anxious/excited/barky habit towards other dogs (any dogs, especially retrievers and labs though). we have however already gotten some good advice from John, and even though we might not be able to find a willing owner with a balanced dog to train with in the area, we are trying to integrate it into our walks (as in appreciating her for everytime she unfocuses/ignores other dogs etc., trying to break the focus as soon as possible to not let is escalate). i don't think she is generally agressive as in *redzone i want to bite you* as we had 2 walks with another german shepherd (until ours and the owner's schedules didn't allow more) that started out very loud and anxious and were just fine with and off-leash after simply walking behind them a few minutes. so ye, we definately work on fixing this! we just don't know if we can join a class in this state just yet.

love fact there is another Gypsy-dog here! In fact all of your furries look just lovely! Razz

Colins Mum is a bit dog-phobic! In fact we can count on 1 hand the number of times they have visited us in Cumbernauld since we got Hektor! Twisted Evil So am sure she hasnt seen you out and about! I'll keep an eye out for her when we visit.

How old is Gypsy? Sounds like Hektor has the same kind of issues as she does, he barks and lunges at other dogs on the lead but is much, much better behaved off lead...perseverance is the key I think, we keep needing to reinforce the pack leader stuff. Good luck Smile

hehe yeah that sounds like Gypsy, she is about 16 months old, can't be entirely sure since she was found by the police, abandoned and with red paint on her forehead (hence the lack of decent hairstyle on her forehead :p) Gypsy had one off-leash dog encounter with a 9 month black lab, we didn't see the pooch and his owner before it was too late, she darted at him and put up a little fight, making him squeal, no blood or serious bites though, but the poor pooch was terrified of her afterwards, made me feel terrible! and somewhat good that she didnt really intend any serious harm i guess, but i don't want to know what would have happened if that had been another dominant dog fighting back oO

had a very good (and very wet!) morning walk with her today, always keeping her at my side now allowing her to sniff around and wee only at certain times, and even though we did approach her *evil retriever twins* from a distance i heeded john's advice and managed to unfocus her quite nicely, so that made me proud Very Happy working on it! Very Happy
