I'm curious how other owners of more than one dog feed their dogs.

Do you give separate bowls or feed in separate rooms or in the one bowl?

I've tried them all - when giving their food in separate bowls JD and Bracken will eat from their own bowl then swap and try each other's food and then go back to their own bowl Laughing

I now just use the one bowl and let pack order do the rest and there's NEVER been a fight, hardly even a growl. I only have to watch what JD has left for Bracken and I will remove the bowl from him if I feel Bracken has taken too much.

What's your routine?

Food is a potential flashpoint for my two

so,

separate bowls........at least 6 feet apart with me between them, whichever dog finishes first I escort out of the room.

works for me Smile

We have to watch our two like a hawk, we just make sure the eat they're own dinner and not each others, and if they try to just put them back to their own food. Bit of a pain having to watch them but it works.

We feed both at same time, Hektors goes down first and he is told to wait, then Millie goes into her crate like a rocket and she gets hers in there.

Food was a flashpoint for Hektor and our last dog Ollie so we always fed them separately

our two great danes get fed at the same time standing next to each other. They are told to sit and the first one to sit gets their dinner first.
our oldest dog is not food driven at all and even although he is a very dominant dog he does not give a toot if skye eats out of his bowl when he is eating and vice versa. Although we discourage this and redirect them back to their own bowl.
Even when it comes to chews both dogs will quite happily share the one, even although they get one each. Only thing we really have to watch them with is fresh bones which we get from our local butchers, they can both be very tempermental with these.

Also because we have children who visit the house we randomly lift the dogs bowls while they are eating and remove bones, chews and toys while they are chewing or playing with them, that way they understand that everything they get is a privilege. although when the children visit just to be on the extra safe side the dogs generally get nothing.

Ours are fed at the same time but using different stands/bowls and round the corner (and plus the pup is still on junior food) and we stand in the middle otherwise, Rudy eats his then nicks Otto's because he's a greedy hog. Otto just walks away and lets him so would starve otherwise.

In fact, Otto will only eat his dinner if we're there or Rudy is in his crate. He likes to take his time.

They drink out of the same bowl though.

When it comes to chews - the constantly nick each others. In fact they have been known to gnaw one from either end.

They share most of their toys, but generally they want whatever the other one has or they play with it together.
