Hi All

Really enjoyed class being back on Sunday, we are trying to work on Tia's recall so we can do more off leash work, but she can be a defiant little wotsit ..... any tips

long line, go out to a field when it is quiet, one of you take Tia the other walk off to a distance you are comfortable with. let her off lead and call her, giving her a treat when she gets to you, call her back and forth. gradually increase the distance. coming to you has got to be the best thing in the world.


also dont feed her before she goes out, or if she has a fave toy bring that.

I save the really good treats like cubes of cheese or bits of sausage for off lead work only. If I have a bag full of sausage in my pocket I cant even get him to go away from me never mind come back!! His recall is instantly better if I have good food on me!!!

Other than that just practice. Alfie still not great at times. And I still need to keep an eye out and put him back on lead if other dogs r coming or he'll be off to say hello and he's had a couple of not so nice experiences with dogs having a go a him down the glen.

I would advise a long line as well........high value treats as a reward.......practice when she is hungry and only use a very small treat.........reel her in with the line if she does not recall.

The key is for her to realise that she HAS to come to you when you call her EVERY TIME.

Excellent advice, especially John's. Luckily our pup Spyke's recall is superb unless he's in a muddy ditch.
