Hi all
Took Tia for her first visit to Cumbernauld park on Monday, it was great.... we even let her off the leash...she was good but I (Alice) was a nervous wreck....will definitely be joining in on the after class walks from now on, I need the training.

That's where I first let alfie off lead for first time. It great cos no roads nearby. He was prob about 4 or 5 months. The group walks r def great for letting them wander around together tho I keep alfie on at some bits cos he likes to scare me my leaping down steep slopes!!!
I dread to think what will happen when alfie and tia are off running around together!!! Should be funny |

Letting them off in a group of dogs is great.......why would they run off when their pals are there? The pack teaches them more than us humans ever could..........

so much agree with John's comment and also it gives the owner confidence.

Our 2 go out with a pack every day with the dog walker....our older dog is the supervisor. Apparently he chastises all the dogs if they misbehave and if one dog is bullying another, he barges the bully. doesn't hurt them...he's like the big brother.
The young one, though, is starting to bark at random strangers and dogs - it's not that he's not well socialised with dogs. I think it's some people and some dogs. His hackles go up. I just think he's lacking a bit of confidence.
So he's coming back to class for a wee while without his supervisor to get him in some new situations on his own with other dogs and people! |

Me and my hubby went down the glen at 9.00 this morning, and we let our dogs off the leash as there was no one in sight. They had a brill time fetching the ball.
A spaniel surprised us coming out of nowhere when we were down at the bridge and JD was brill not a sign of aggression and when told to go find the ball he left the dog alone and found the ball. Hubby was taken aback as he expected some trouble so it's given us a little more confidence.

I have no wish to disagree with John at all but I have found that in Cuthbert's case the water has a far greater appeal for him than even his pals. If I let him off lead when he is anywhere near a body of water, he becomes deaf and blind to anything else! Makes life very tricky as I am virtually surrounded by water where I stay. Luckily he just wants to splash around in the the shallows. Mind you he does have great fun and when he eventually does come out he is wet, sandy and muddy!but so happy! Needless to say his recall near water is still being worked on!! _________________ Happiness is watching my dog chase leaves dancing in the breeze. |
