It is quite a climb and you are right to worry about his joints.....the terrain is pretty rough in places.

Have a look for the videos when The School did it for charity.

Might be well worth trying some smaller climbs to get him into the swing of it.

Hey!
I did Ben Lomond with my 18 month old collie cross recently and he managed fine. When I looked into it beforehand many of the sites recommended waiting until the dog was 18 months before so his bones are fully matured and he knows his limits. You'll know better than anyone how you think he'll manage but there's the odd scrabbley steep bit that I had to let Doug tackle how he wanted.
There are sheep grazing as well so he'd need to be on a lead which limits the freedom you can give him to tackle parts on his own.
If bagging munros with your dog's going to be a new hobby search for Hamish Brown who has summitted all 282 with his dog. So it's possible!
Also, if you want companionship on your hikes me and Doug are hoping to be the next Hamish and Storm! Smile

I agree ben Lomond can be a bit scrabbly at bits. I did it when doing the west highland way with the Army. Why not try out Ben Anne to start as its a nice walk and good for the dogs.
