I have just read in the Evening Times that the council have voted to end the use of school and community facilities by dog training
classes. Councilor John Logue is quoted as saying " In far to many cases our halls were being left in a poor condition following a let to a dog group. All dogs shed hair and dander and secrete saliva and urine which cause allergic reactions to many people. We cannot have children in the same hall within a short time period of time restricting the use of our centres. Even the cleanest dogs leave a lingering odour especially when coming in out the damp or wet."

You think they would be pleased folk cared enough to train their dogs!

John its on page 6 of the Evening Times. I was shocked to read it. especially the comments attributed to the Councillor as I said you think they would be pleased to have responsible people training their dogs.

Just read it......you would have thought they would have consulted us about this.

I assume we will hear more in due course.......to say this is not good is an understatement.

Ridiculous . Surely the council should be pleased that people are responsible dog owners. Would they rather there were out of control ( perhaps dangerous) dogs out in the community!!
What about the " children" who make the area dangerous for others by vandalizing and smashing bottles in the streets? What are they doing about that? What about the huge pot holes on the roads? Grrr

Read about this on Facebook and came straight on here hoping it was just a rumour. Apparently there is a meeting at the four isle airdrie tomorrow at 12 to discuss it but I don't know who's hosting that or what it's about. Surely they can't just do that

"A petition against the ban is now being organised and a demonstration will take place at the council’s headquarters in Motherwell at 4pm on Thursday, March 28."

A Facebook groop has been set up tonprotest against the dission, its got all the info of what's going on.

Quote:
The SAVE OUR HALLS DOG ACTION GROUP is asking all dog owners to come along to the Motherwell Civic Centre on Thursday the 28th of March to protest at North Lanarkshire Councils decision to ban all dog lets and shows from their halls. The final ratifying vote will be taken on that day. We would like a large number of people and dogs there for the whole day.

A big ask I know but even if you can come along for a few hours, either in the morning, your lunch break or afternoon, that would be fantastic. Banners, placcards or anything that will draw attention to our fight, would be great. The council failed two years ago to close all of our community centres, as it was proved their figures were wrong. Now they hope to restrict the types of groups who can use the halls. Dog lets are the first to come under the knife, your dance class, zuma, pensioners groups and mother & toddlers could be next. Then they can truthfully say the halls are under-used and close them down. Please support our fight, we need as many there as possible. We are meeting at 9am and hope to have a good presence throughout the day. Please spread the word. Thank you. x

After speaking to Councillor Alan O'Brien I know have a bit more info.

This has been driven by cost primarily.......Westfield hall would be ripe for closure if we did not use it.......many other halls used by dog trainers would be in a similar position.

There has been NO public consultation on this at all which is why we heard nothing before it ended in the papers.

The ban is set to be be pushed through and become irreversible at a Council meeting on Thursday 28th March starting at 4pm, it is early on the Council agenda and is open to the public.

I will try to go over as are many other objectors.

Councillor O'Brien is going to speak strongly in our defence suggesting that a proper consultation takes place.

Well so far concrete information on today's Council meeting is is scarce but it seems that the Council have went for a period of consultation rather than endorsing an outright ban today.

As soon as I know more I will post it here.
