i was walking my girls with one of my friends (she is 20) and i had to keep telling her to stop jumping up to the girls as we were next to a road and Gypsy kept getting spooked and darting behind me onto the road, (luckily she was on lead) so its not just kids. admittedly it was the first time she had been for a walk with us, but it still bugged me.

Oh I know that it's not just kids who don't understand dogs, Kendal, but if you think about it, if the education about dogs starts in school then when they're older and become adults they will hopefully have a better understanding of dogs and will respect them more, even if they don't particularly like dogs. There was a two day visit to primary schools last month.

Primary 6 has been identified as the most receptive age to try and educate kids about dogs.

Here are some of the stats

Kids interviewed 1032
Kids who have dogs at home 453
Kids who have been bitten/scared 530
Kids who intend to have a dog 495
Kids who have stepped in dog faeces 998

from this you can see the scale of the dog poo problem Shocked almost every child has stepped in it.
This keeps coming up as the biggest single complaint from the general public ( both dog and non/dog owners).
