try leaving the crate door open ross and let him take a chew a bone or whatever he likes into it!......don't close the door let him come in and out!
also when i first put echo in hers i sat outside and pottered about on the pc!.......he should actually love it and make it his space to get away to sleep or just rest! _________________ Cockapoo's...a little of this, a little of that..........

Brilliant picture, made me laugh!!!
We started using a crate when we got Tess as a pup, and as soon as our backs where turned old Towsie had claimed it. She was 12 years old and loved going in it, although we didnt close the door on her. I think she liked being in a wee enclosed space, and felt secure. So an older dog CAN take to crates.
As for bedding, we originally bought expensive beds that fitted the crate. At £40 it wasnt cheap, and it wasnt until it needed washed we realised it didnt unzip or break down to pieces to fit in washing machine, so it got binned because it got stinking, a waste of £40. We now use a cheap dog bed from Argos at £7.99. They are easily washed, and cheap enough that we have a few so we can replace them when one is in the wash. We also have a couple of blankets for them to dig in. The dogs seem happy enough, although they also have each other to keep warm in this cold weather. _________________ Parsons Russell fanatic |

Otto doesn't go in his crate willingly unless we're in the kitchen. As a puppy he howled the place down for 2 nights.
He has sussed that 'pee pee' usually means going in the crate and that means being left alone. So he either won't do it or drags his feet or sits outside in the dark - it's like a wee kid not wanting to go to bed.
Of course he'd rather be with us, but the sad eyes don't wash with me - he knows the routine and goes in himself with a sigh of resignation. He settles down and sleeps very quickly. |

what a face on Giles, he is not pleased with those darn cats. Very funny pic. I was using a similar bed which cost about £45 and have just chucked it in the bin, as dexter ripped all the underneath lining and it was too big to fit in the washing machine and a pain to wash by hand. he has another large bed with a zipped cover, but im thinking of getting him a quilt, as it would be cosier and easy to just buy some covers and chuck them in the wm _________________ Grace & Dexter |
