I was in a bookshop earlier today and was reading about Basenjis.

I found out something very interesting about them!

Basenjis come into season once a year, rather than twice a year like other domestic dogs. They have the typical reproductive pattern of the the grey wold.

Fascinating! Very Happy

I like those dogs, the tricolour is gorgeous!

That breed usually does well at Crufts.

I would love a tri colour Basenji one day.

I seen them at Crufts '06, they are gorgeous. Ever since then, i've loved them.

Our lurchers are usually 9mths for seasons, dogs can var between seasons, some you can set your calender by, others well its a case of wait and see Rolling Eyes

My JRT Dora has 9 months season and it looks like the puppy Lizzy will be the same as she is coming up for 7mnths and nothing yet. Some dogs have what are called silent seasons where there are no signs like blood or much swelling and it can be very hard to tell...then there is wee Maya who has had loads if seasons in just a short time for some reason that her owner and vet and trying to sort.

The average time between seasons is 6 months though. Yes, i've heard of silent seasons.
