I remember someone saying to me that pigs ears werent good for dogs as they didnt digest properly!
Come to think of it I cant remember if it was my mum probably coz she hated the thought of it being a pigs ear! _________________ Kindest Regards,

My 2 turn somersaults for them - I give them the strips as a treat because I think the whole ear is too big for them.
They disagree vehemently with this last statement. _________________ "My little dog - a heartbeat at my feet" - Edith Wharton |

Someone once gave me pigs ears to try with Molly and Roxy. I halfed one and gave it to them. Roxy was fine, but Molly was sick almost straight after it.
Instead, I give them Burns pork cracklings now and again:

I made the mistake of putting a 2 pigs ears in the crate with Jake and Star, we just heard this all mighty scream and we ran down stairs and Star had both pigs ears in one corner and Jake pinned against the other side of the crate and he was screaming!
I've not bought them since. I guess we can say my lot like them a bit to much. _________________ Dogs are like Chocolate, you just can't have one! |

Fiona,
You could still give your dogs pigs ears - but next time, supervise them while they're eating them and don't give them to them in their crate!
Perhaps you could give them pigs ears in separate rooms, or outside? |

Jodie and Mandy have them in separate rooms.
Jodie and Mandy have all food in separate rooms!
If this was not the case, Jodie would be one fat dog and poor Mandy would starve.
Despite this, Mandy is alpha dog. _________________ "My little dog - a heartbeat at my feet" - Edith Wharton |

lol its more trouble than its worth having the three of them to separate. Star is a nightmare its like Libby and Jake know he is going to give them in to trouble and they just won't touch it. He goes around collecting stuff then stands guard over it. I always take the things away from him, and I dread to think what he has buried outside in our garden. The cat keeps bringing dead mice in for the dogs and I am sure star buries them all
He tries it with bones as well but Jake likes his bones to much to back down _________________ Dogs are like Chocolate, you just can't have one! |

Sounds like a laugh a minute in your house!
I have experience of cats bringing in birds and mice in to the house - but they have all been alive! The dead ones, I hope, stay outside! |

Any 'high value' food is a potential for a fight.pigs ears, bones etc. This is the number1 cause of fights between dogs, number 2 is 'high value' toys.........which to a dog could be a stick or an old sock.to us it is worthless to a dog having it is status in the pack.......as pack leader we MUST manage these thing well.....or our dogs will get hurt. _________________ John Thomson

Our last cat used to bring live ones in but only to kill them on my rug! Harvey isn't to bad although I think he sees it as his job to feed the dogs _________________ Dogs are like Chocolate, you just can't have one! |

This is true John.
We have no fights in our house. Mandy can take any toy from Jodie without a murmur. Jodie can similarly take any food from Mandy.
It is a question of their priorities and, even though they are both bitches, harmony reigns.
Mandy goes out and in first and shoves Jodie out of the way. Jodie submits to this. Mandy is without doubt "top dog". A dog psychologist would love them!
They live together perfectly and are a complete joy. _________________ "My little dog - a heartbeat at my feet" - Edith Wharton |

John,
I must be quite lucky with Molly and Roxy. They never have any bad feeling towards each other. I could have them sitting side by side, and only give one treats, the other would just stay sitting and watch. Not that i'm a bad mammy and do that on a regular basis though!
When they get treats, Molly has hers in the living room, and Roxy has hers in the hall. The door is shut between them. Roxy is always last to finish, so when she's done she can push the door open to get into the living room, whereas it can't be pushed open from the living room......If you see where i'm going with this!!
Even at meal times, although they are always supervised, Molly waits until Roxy is finished before going near her bowl. Neither ever leave a morsel, and the routine is that they lick each others bowls when they're finished before the bowls are picked up and washed. |
