"Suddenly it's there again,
I see it with my eye,
I turn to grab, but it's not there...
then it's there again, behind.

Must be quicker next time,
Take it by surprise,
I turn again, but it's gone again
and it's there again, behind.

Faster and faster round I go
and then I feel a pain,
I must remember when it's there again,
that it's part of me, behind."

I like that Lizzy has recently discovered her tail and loves to spin round with it in her mouth I do tell her off and say that only silly dogs do it which means in turn Alan encourages her to do and then says see she is sooo silly that dog Confused

I understand that, in actual fact, dogs chasing their tails is not a good thing, quite the opposite as it means they are frustrated for certain reasons. However, I did like this wee poem! Smile

don't think Lizzy is frustrated just curious that she can catch her tail and have a wee chew of it, the game only ever lasts a few seconds then she goes and plays with her toys or jumps on her mum and pulls her ears to see if she wants to play Laughing

Oh, i'm sure it's not frustration in all cases, in very mild cases it can be just a bit of fun for the dog, but it is very possible, in extreme cases, that it can become a bad habit for the dog and turn in to a major problem.

I know what you mean you often see video clips of poor dogs in a bad state from however they have been treated, chasing their tails and I can see how it s a habit bit like horses gulping air it's a horrible habit usually adopted out of boredom. Lizzy on the other hand is just a puppy being curious and being egged on by her silly dad, Dora did the same as a pup and has not done it in a very long time think they all go through a short stage of wondering what this thing on their backside is..."is this attached to me? I'll have a chew and see....ohhhh yes it seems it is mine maybe shouldn't chew it again!!!!" Laughing Laughing

I agree with you, Lindy, that most puppies are curious as to what the thing is behind them and that its usually just a phase until they realise that their tail is attached to them and they shouldn't chew it! Laughing
