Oh for goodness sake Nicola, you really are the most ridiculous thing!!! :rol:
No 'one is advocating beating their dogs here, so stop making everyone out to be dog abusers, but such is the nature o the beast in that if you give them an inch, they will take it a mile, an i agree kids are similar. These new age love an light methods have just left us with a society where kids run amok robbing old folk, an dogs behave like wee buggers bighting folk an getting into strife.
Limits have to be set as to what is expectable behaviour, an sometimes what is needed is a smart tap on the nose or a hot backside for their efforts when them dogs over step the mark. This is not breed dependent, it is dog dependent, nor is it dog abuse. Don’t hold yourself up as superior to us that choose the hot backside method when needed, you just got lucky so far sweetie.
You have fancy show dogs that do the show ring thing...the vast majority o dogs on here are dogs bred for a job o work, a perpuse, an they are driven by other things. You are talking about a different species almost.
I would like to see you spend the afternoon out with my dogs out in the downs...Stafford’s an patterdales, you wouldn’t last an hour lass.
My dogs worship the ground i walk on, an me them...but i am the boss an they get short shrift for their efforts if they dare overstep the mark.

Bit of a de-ja-vu here with you, Sam? Isn't it? Again, you obviously don't know me at all. My dogs respect me too, only I don't have to give me a "short thrift" as you call it, to scare them in to respecting me.
My friend has a very, very highly strung dog and she trusts few people with her. Not many people can cope with her. I can, and I cope with her very well indeed. We think she has a lot of Patterdale terrier in her. |

you ' think' it has a lot o Patterdale...my Patterdales were bred by the terrier man from the local hunt, pure bred nuttals dogs...you really dont have a clue . I would thank you for not just having a guess as well. Because it is insulting for us that have the real deal dogs.

She's from a rescue centre and beforehand was found on the streets. She definitely has some Patterdale terrier in her. That better? |

They sure were, Suzanne. They are originally earth dogs (I think before they were given the name WHWT) and bred for hunting vermin. My Westie is not a "nuttal" though, thank god. |

No they were not,,, they are the show dog variation of a earth terrier. The earth dog was not a full coated white thing..the modern westie is a show dog that the likes o the original earth dog would pee up when it come to going to ground an bolting a fox or finishing it off.
