Just thought i would let you know how Skye's paw is ( she split it today at the glen ) Crying or Very sad

Got her home from dog training, which she didn't do and did as Janis and Marcella advised:

Washed it in warm salty water
applied steri-zone gel ( which she wasn't too happy about )
Tried to apply steri - strips to try and pull the pad together but it was only sticking on one side of the pad.
So i applied the TCP spray plaster and tried to hold it together, it looked a bit better and has for now stopped bleeding.
She is in her bed with one of Joshua's socks on and the children are under strict instruction not to bother her!

It is yet another waiting game to see if it will start to heal or it Will be a trip to the vets

Because she wasn't limping and i didn't see any blood until i got her out of the car I'm Mad with myself for not noticing before!

It looked sore, but to them it may not be as bad. You would be surprise at how quickly pads can heal. It may need a trip to vets just in case it gets infected, but i,m sure you,l see how she is by 2mro! I had Tikka down Glen earlier and as I mentioned she got a 2 inch razor sharp thorn up her back paw. Managed to pull out before went up to far. With the bad weather and all the work going on down there just now may be an idea to try a new afternoon walk!? Branches and glass are becoming more and more! Confused

Yea i agree Barry! It's getting like a mine field at the glen just now. Confused

I like broadwood loch but would be open to suggestions for a change of lunchtime walk.

Just fed Lady and Skye and every time she moves her paw there is a fresh patch of blood.
It is about twice as big as a 50p Crying or Very sad

Every time she stands it opens up and she has only stood up 3 times since have been in.
I think i am going to have to take a trip to the vets see what he says Sad

Emma it really looked like a sore one.very difficult to keep a dog off its feet for long.
The best you can do is keep it clean to stop infection, we use spray plaster but I on't think that will stop the bleeding fo long if she insists on walking on it.

Murphy did one better than that last year ............ he got the thorn right through his eye! It went straight into the iris. Problem was it had gone straight in and we didn't see it!!!! Next day his eye was red and weepy and we took him to the vet. Vet discovered the tiny edge of the thorn. He went in and was sedated and they had to remove it from his eyeball! Shocked

I know Marcella, just hope they don't have to put her under to stitch it. It worries me silly.

These 2 are definitely keeping me on my toes.cussing

If she stays calm the could just use a local anaesthetic.

i agree with lorna that a local would just sedate her! ...............along with that as much as you don't like a lot of rest and only 20 mins walk on lead to give her exercise but without too much damage to her paw or or growing muscels!

didn't get a chance to talk to you today but i was reading about a few dogs today and i didn't know that you can improve the chances of arthritis in danes if you walk them or let them run too early! might be worth a thought! also stevie with kaiser has just today got himself and brenda a chinese crested dog and they'll need sun cream on their little backs when it's summer! ...............the things you learn on google!

i'll easily change to the loch a couple of time a week to walk the girls at lunch if it helps you and the girls! or if you want i'll do the glen in the afternoon and let the girls rest and then do once round the loch at night with kendal and lauren!

I think the loch would probably be better for now. Will obviously have to see what the vet has to say tomorrow.
If Skye can't go for walks i am better off walking lady at night when John is in to keep Skye company. Confused

Emma, you can always walk on your own you know!!!! Very Happy Join in any of the walks without the girls if they have to stay home at anytime. Linsey frequently joins us without Leon!
You don't have to take your dogs if you fancy a walk! Wink

Thank you Janis and Marcella. Will let you know what the vet says, as long as i can get an appointment tomorrow.

Janis i love our gossiping walks Very Happy anytime suits me just need to see what the vet man says... Rolling Eyes

Marcella i might take you up on that offer i could do with losing a few pounds and i love walking. Very Happy

KEEPING THE WOUND DRY

Has anyone got any ideas on how to keep Skye's paw bandage dry?
The vets gave me an old saline bag to put over it but it is too small.

So far i have tried a nappy bag, a carrier bag and clingfilm and none of them have stayed on....

Any ideas welcome Smile
