OK... was cleaning Leon after the walk today and noticed a bit of a whiff around the bum area...

Stop reading now if you are queasy!!!

So, dedicated dog owner that I am, I had a quick sniff of the area (boak!)

Wasn't the most pleasant smell, and was in fact quite reminiscent of the smell when the vet used to squeeze our Golden retreivers anno-glands (sp?)

I wasn't sure if he was just a bit cheesy and in need of a bath, or if it was the glands - I mean, is it something that you can get a whiff of, you know... externally?

If so, should I take him to the vet? Surely I shouldn't do it myself? I don't think my stomach could take it anyway!

Yeh the vet shows you what to do and then you can do it yourself. Its not something I would mind doing myself, but would probably go to the vet incase i happened to cause any pain. Anal glands are located at 8 and 4 o'clock positions. You can masage the outside in an upwards motion, or it can be done internally.. boke... vet please!

yeah - there's a fine line to be walked between putting-it-lightly and getting to the point.

I do my best! Well, if you didn't laugh...

Good luck. It is not a pleasant task. Best done when you are bathing him though as it can be messy and it is very pongy!

yeah - seems relatively simple...

I will just get stuck in there and give them a squeeze when i'm bathing him tonight... need's must, into the breach and all that!

I'll just shove some cotton wool up my nose.
