We had to have Cuthbert's anal glands emptied the other day and while they weren't infected one in particular was very difficult to get done. I know diet will play its part in this and that is being attended to but would getting his glands emptied more frequently help prevent it getting so difficult to do and if so how often? At the moment it is about every 2 months.

Linsey done Leon's last week and Kendal regularly does Gypsy and Inca's.
Doing it externally when needed will reduce the need for it to be done internally, which Im sure is more uncomfortable.

I regularly massage Holly there if I see she is pulling her bum on the floor or something. You get that you can tell when it needs done. Massaging there will help loosen the 'anal juice' puke_r

Care needs to be taken so as not to rupture one of the 'sacs' though. Shocked

I am soooooooooooo glad this is something I've NEVER had to do with any of our dogs. Perhaps GSDs are less prone to this?

lol!
Thankfully this is not something I have had to try with Rufus! The groomer yesterday told me that normally these are emptied when he goes to the toilet naturally, lol! Long may it continue!

Just found this on the Internet thought it might be of interest to you anal gland emptiers!! Shocked Laughing

Pet waste - poop: eating raw food

Eating bones helps to create a firmer stool, this will help the anal sacs to empty naturally, no more smelly rear-end, "nice"! Stool size will be much smaller also as the raw foods are used by your Danes body, not just digested and eliminated.

Less pet gas is an added benefit of a raw dog diet, along with fewer digestive difficulties.
