I have been practising recall with Lady and Skye today in the garden with a long lead and normal collar.
Here is my problem, Lady has all of a sudden decided she would like to bounce of me, she jumps up me and i pull up my knee unless she catches me unaware..and now she has started to bite in the process. She bit me in earlier and it really nipped.
I have to confess i walloped her on the nose Embarassed but she kept on doing it and i the knee wasn't working.

Any suggestions/ comments? Confused

Is she enjoying the recall work .......getting excited? If she is and she nips simply stop and end the training session........she will learn that is she wants to continue to enjoy herself she will have to refrain from nipping.
Let me know how this progresses.

Will do John.
I worked on recall this morning and she was fine but this afternoon she kept jumping and nipping me mainly the hands and arms.
I did pretty much stop as soon as she starting the nipping it wasn't nasty, however she did come up to me, stayed about 6 foot away and started to bark at me!! Shocked ??!

What is that all about? anytime i moved towards her she bolted off Confused

Hektor is also starting to jump at me this week Emma. He hadnt ever really tried to do this before as I have been very aware that this is behaviour I definately do NOT want to encourage in a fully grown Dane!!! I know Lady is a wee bit older than him but is this the onset of cheeky adolescence? He hasnt attempted to nip or bite yet but he has that cheeky glint in his eye now like he's trying me out...

Very Happy i was working on the finish before, do you think i should walk her a bit to calm her down Kendal?

Lisa the thought of cheeky adolescence in 2 Great Danes is definitely terrifying Laughing and i really hope not Confused

well i was just thinking about what happens in class if a dog comes in late after every one else has gone round the hall to settle the dogs.

the one that has just come in can go a bit mental and run round the room saying hi to every one when he/she is asked to recall

just a thought, it might put her in the rite state of mined Very Happy

If I'm doing training outside with my two I start off with heel work to get them settled and aware we are going to work, it works and gets them focused on me, mind you Lizzy was so busy yesterday watching everything else in her recal that she sat stay for ages looking at things whilst i was calling her Laughing Laughing Laughing

Some good advice here, Emma. Best to get her calm before your begin work with her.

All dogs, Danes included go through their pushy teenage phase. You just persist through it. Some of it will make you laugh, honest. It is good practice for when your kids get there. If she is getting bolshie, restrict her. Reassert yourself and make sure she understands YOU decide if and when she goes anywhere or does anything she wants to. Rolling Eyes

Good luck, Emma. Lots of deep breaths and try to laugh at the disasters - if they happen.
