hi there i got Kai and the lady was giving him 4 cups dry mixer split into two meals one in morning and one at night but I'm not sure that's enough, because he always looks hungry is that what i should be feeding him because when we had our other rottweiler he was getting tin of dog meat plus two cup fulls of dog mixer split into two meals, can anyone give me any advice on this just I'm a bit worried he isn't getting enough food

Kai is quite big and carrying a little excess weight, so I would REDUCE that amount slightly!
Whatever you do do not give him more than that as you would end up doing more harm than good. If you give him treats cut back on that a bit too and instead give him something like a marrow bone to chew on. Not only will it give him hours of fun but is great for his teeth and he'll love the flavour too. Very Happy

Stay away from tinned dog food ....... it's not good stuff Sad

What dry food are you currently feeding him?

Chappie isn't too bad Tracy. Smile
We feed our two raw as do many others. By raw we mean any type of raw meat. But it's not bought from the butcher or Tesco, we buy it from a raw dog food supplier. Things like minced heart, liver, tripe, chicken etc and also chicken wings and chicken backs. Anything basically. But buying it from the raw suppliers is much cheaper. In fact it costs us approx £28 per month for TWO dogs! That equates to around £3.50 per dog per week, much cheaper than dried or tinned food by far.
The biggest advantage is that there is no additives whatsoever so your dog is getting fresh healthy food.

If you ever give your dog a bone, never give him a cooked bone. Cooked bones, especially chicken, can splinter and cause major problems. But any type of bone can be fed raw!

If you want to know more about raw there's tons of advice here and also should you want to try it we can get you bags of mince from a local supplier to give it a try. Smile

yeah definitely id prefer if i knew myself what was going into his system, so as i knew i wasn't feeding him anything that might hurt him in the long run, hes a great dog and i wat him around for a long time yet, so any information i can get would be very helpful, how much raw food should i feed him a day and the likes.

Don't worry Tracy............stick to what you are feeding at the moment..........it takes time and a little planning to switch to a raw diet........the only way to make is cost effective is to have a freezer so that you can buy in bulk to keep costs down.

Take your time reading about feeding......plenty of us will be happy to advise you on here, on a Sunday and on walks

Kai is on a raw diet too but it never reduced his wind, he's always at it and is stinking Embarassed I'd definitely recommend a raw diet though. Here's some sites for info:
