i have just wormed my pups and generally it is a nightmare!

i have tried rolling them up in cold meat, baby bell cheese, regular cheese, a whole host of things including a pill dispenser from the pet shop and still had to fight to get it down the back of the throat!

this morning i raided the fridge and picked out some pate!.................

a gave them a cube on it's own and they loved it so i cut another small cube off and halved it placing the tablet between!

hooray !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

two dogs gullped down with no problem at all!

I'm a bit more pragmatic, I just open his gob, hold his head back and put it on the back of his tongue and hold his muzzle shut. Method adopted while he was on antibiotics and he didn't seem to mind, certainly didnt run away when the bottle was produced.

Suzanne I'm with you i just shove it down their gobs and hold their muzzle shut and head up until they swallow, Lizzy is a bit dafty anyhow and eats her wormers it's just Dora who is grumpy about it but she gets a treat afterwards so she knows she is not getting into trouble it's just a necessity.

which ones do you guys use?? I think it was Dontral?? Dotral?? (something like that) that we were given by the vet! Are there many others? Can you buy them elsewhere other than going to the vets?? We need to do Holly again! I'm hoping if its wrapped in turkey ham she'll eat it!! Confused

Edited to say: I actually think it might have been Panacur??? Think our family dog gets Dontral... or whatever it is called! Laughing

Probably going to get a bollocking here- I have never wormed my dogs since I have had them. I watch there poo closely and they do not have worms. Have never had worms.

I have a supply of worm tablets which I bought from the vets. But I am a believer in not treating until there is a problem

as I say I know this is not a popular view but hey ho

Actually I have never wormed any of my dogs or cats until they have an infestation.

Tootsie my cat was the last one needing treated but at the time she brought birds and mice home daily.

Oscar gets his annual boosters and kennel cough, and deworming tablets twice a year. I got having my animals innoculated and dewormed when we lived in South Africa; there, the animals had to have annual rabies injections as well.

As far as deworming goes - even humans took tablets! Seems quite strange to me now that I don't take them:-))

I kennel Oscar at least 3 times a year, plus taking him training to Alexandria (and now to you guys - occasionally) - all these places require everything to be up-to-date! I think I'd rather be safe than sorry - until such time as they introduce a system where they check the levels of everything!

Oscar is insured with PetPlan, but I must admit I haven't checked to see what they say about boosters etc!

Mine are wormed regularly. Given their history of starvation I dare not have them deal with worms.
Maybe I am too much of a worrier.

I worm mine every 3 or 4 months and I always will all dogs have worms liying dorman in their organs and worming kills any newly hatched eggs and stops any from being passed on through feces and vomit. It is especially important to worm pregnant bitches, lactaiting bitches and puppies from 4 weeks every two weeks until 12 weeks
