Thank you all for you kind comments.
We were called to collected Poppy this afternoon as they were unable to operate on her until Tues 1st. So she has to go back in again on Monday. The contrast study she had done on Tuesday this week showed a VERY dilated ureter. They are unsure if it is functional at the moment and won't find that out until they open her up next week...the worst case scenario is that it isn't working, so they will remove it and the kidney. But we are hoping that it is working ever so slightly and in this case they will try to move the ureter to the correct position and save it. They have suggested that if left untreated it would have resulted in her losing the kidney and were lucky to have caught it so early... so we're hanging onto that!!
We are just on a roller coaster at the moment but are so delighted to have her back home again
Can anyone tell me if we lose her kidney, how serious is this for a small dog

Audrey, you must be going through hell.
Sorry to hear about this, hope things are ok and you end up with the best case scenario rather than the worst |

Audrey, sorry to hear this, and I hope everything goes ok!
I'm sorry I cant give you any information regarding the kidney, and I would suggest googling it, but sometimes that just makes things worse!
I'll have my fingers crossed for the little one!
Luv to you too! _________________ Ashley with Holly & Murphy.

Hi folks
Thank you for all your kind thoughts and thankfully things went well!!
Very well in fact. Poppy had her operation on Tuesday and they managed to save the ureter and kidney, so we're delighted to say the least. We went to visit her on Wed afternoon and she seemed to be a bit uncomfortable, so they put her on an anti-inflammatory which has helped. We brought her home yesterday and she was so excited to be home. The problem is Millie doesn't understand when we stop them playing.
She has to go back in 2 weeks for a check up but they are hopeful that this will be the end of her urine problems.
Thank goodness for dedicated people like Vets

I,m really glad you got the best result!
They really are amazing at the Vet School, not just with the animals, I found, but they really know how to deal with the distraught and worried owners too.
You will be in the same boat as me for a while then, trying to keep the patient from overexerting...not easy is it? |
