Sorry if I didn't get a chance to chat to anyone on tonight's walk.........quite early on one of the new dogs collapsed. Word spread forward through the group and I ran back to check what had happened.

Ian and Agnes's black Lab had over exerted itself and collapsed but this was the DOGS 4TH WALK IN THE GLEN TODAY.......Agnes called a family friend for help, he came down with his van and some water ( got to within a 100 yards of us !). After a bit of rest , Ian soaking his jumper in the river to cool the dog......a girl passed with her two dogs and went to fill a poo bag with water....Bob returned with said bag to cool the dog.........all in all too much exercise for that dog today!

The Lab hopefully will be OK after a bit of rest and re-hydration.

So for those of you who thought I simply disappeared...........the welfare of the dogs on the walk comes first!

glad he is OK that must have bee scary seeing a dog just collapse, did he get up him self or did he need to be lifted into the van

thanks for your concern....after he cooled down and got a drink he got up and walked un-aided back to the van.........all along he had feeling in both back legs and could move them ............just not enough strength to get up........he is a big boy .....too heavy for me to carry Embarassed

He is a rescue dog and new to his current owners....I think he just had far too much exercise today.........I'm sure he will be as right as rain tomorrow.

Just glad that happened when he was out with the group and not on a solo walk.

I have met that man with the lab in the past in the glen, he must have got a real fright.

What happened to the big black dog that looked like a rottie or mastiv mix I did'nt see him did he stick around with the lab.

Or was he a lab, I thought he was soooo big and solid looking he was a mix. well anyway, as long as he is ok now.

Lessons to be learned there.

I had bob and dodge out at the bmx at lunchtime and ran them with the ball thrower for a good 20 mins, then lindsays daughter asked if she and her pal could take them for a walk, they had them out for an hour and did not get them back to the house until 7pm, but mostly on the lead, and I was concerned about taking big bob out again so soon, generally dodge will do the duracel thing and go for hours but bob does not have the same energy or stamina, or desire for exercise.(he runs on the tesco value equivalent battery !!!) - in future I might just limit their exercise. Lindsay tells me all the time I overdo it with the dogs. Here I thought he was just being lazy Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Really scary stuff. My two always find water to cool off in, but what would happen if there was no where for a plunge.

Kirsty,

the dog you are thinking of is the Lab........big and strong......dominant.....getting the snip on Friday!

didn't think till you said what if it was on a solo walk Embarassed
I'm sure the amount of exercise was too much.to be fair the owners were not going to do a full circuit tonight and were about to turn back when this happened..I'm not religious but ...........there for the grace of God go I.............

I've just come back from the glen and passed Ian with his dog. He had him on the lead and he seemed absolutely fine.

I didn't know Agnes and Ian had even been on the walk last night or that there had been an incident or I would have asked after his dog. There were lots of people and dogs there.

Thank goodness it all turned out alright.

Glad to hear he's OK Smile He seemed a nice dog.

But its a warning about exercise. I thought by two you'd never out walk them! I suppose it was hot yesterday.
