Mishka will give a bark or two if she hears anything out of the ordinary during the night. I really don't mind as this gives us peace of mind that she is watching over us and the house.

Cadbury is the same. he lives in a old wendy house in the garden. when i come home from a night out he will bark when I come in the gate until he hears my voice or sees me coming. its reassuring to think hes watching the family!

my two know when someone is at the door before I do, I don't discourage them to bark they are doing their job, if I let some one in the barking stops, they do the same with my neighbors, we have an old boy that lives on one side, they watch him work in his garden, they bark if some one strange comes in his garden, the same with other side they let them walk down the path but any one strange and they bark. I think both sides are pleased that they look out for them.

I have 4 dogs, and none of them ever hear the door and none of them bark unless there is a dog outside or when we come on from being out Rolling Eyes but then a barking lurcher is a nono, how can it catch rabbits if its wasting breath barking, not that my lazy lot could even catch a rabbit between them now Rolling Eyes Laughing

Otto's guarding behaviour has been fairly recent - I just thank him, then tell him to lie down. It's part of being a dog, and certainly it says he will do this in his breed standard so I don't discourage it.

Mostly I have no idea what he's barking at, but he goes up and looks out the window and settles down again quite quickly unless it's someone coming in, and he seems to welcome them all in regardless.

Where was he when we needed him Question
