Blood in Vomit

We had a real shock this morning when we came downstairs. Eilidh had vomited numerous times and there was fresh blood in most of the pools. It was like clear fluid and blood. As soon as the vet opened I phoned them and they told me to bring her round. Before we went I thought I'd take her for a short walk on the lead and when she pooed it was quite loose with blood in that as well. Sad

Thinking the worst I took her along to Mrs Lawrie who examined her. She said she thinks it is colitis and gave her an anti-sickness jag and an anti-biotic jag. She also gave me doggy dioralite and doggy gaviscon to give her. I'm taking her back tomorrow but wondered if anyone else has had this type of thing happen to their dog and how it all worked out. I forgot to ask her how she could have got this and am about to go and look it up online now.

Fingers crossed that the visit to Lawries does the trick.........just when everything seems OK.you get something like this........

I've just had a quick look and it says that it could be due to a dietary thing or sometimes occurs with stress after being kenneled for a period. She was in the kennels for nearly three weeks, coming out a fortnight ago. She had also barked herself hoarse so I wonder if that contributed to anything.
I have been planning to change her diet to James Wellbeloved anyway and the vet says this is a good idea for her.

Goodness a fight right enough you must have got!!!
I really hope everythings all right and that hopefully the vets would have managed to settle whatevers going on!

Sheryl,
Eilidh and Wallace are both on Baker's at the moment, having tried all sorts of different and expensive foods, it's the only one they will both eat. However...that is about to change! It will be James Wellbeloved or starve! No maybe not, but I don't think the Baker's is doing Eilidh much good. She has such a dull coat at the moment.
I'll let you know what the vet says tomorrow.
It's such a support to come onto this forum.

Bakers is the worst thing you can feed your dog on!!!
I only found that out about 4 weeks ago coz that's what my two were on!! Its the one with the highest amount of 'junk' in it and also highest with its protein content!!!!
I was exactly the same the reason they were on it is because they wouldn't eat anything else. My two are now going on the burns diet which is quite expensive but at least its good for them!!

Yes I know you are right Sheryl but they probably take after me and like their junk food!
Thanks Fiona for your reassurance. It's horrible to think that you may have caused your dog to be ill.

I used to feed my Beardie, Blue on Burns, so it's not the cost that put me off. Just the ease of two dogs eating the same thing.

No don't be silly Alison . I don't think its Bakers that would have caused this something has upset her tummy or something not just the food!
But if you speak to John he'll tell you its really bad! I got such a fright, you think you are trying to do the best by your dogs and here I was feeding them the worst thing possible but no one tells you these things!
My boys have been on rice and egg for the last 9 days trying to settle there stomachs and we've been giving them a wee bit of burns the free sample that we got and they love it totally love it!
Especially the fish one! But its stinks so i brought them chicken and brown rice.

I might use Burns. The whole changeover thing is going to be a bit of a nightmare but it will be worth it I'm sure. Do you think Burns is better than J Wellbeloved? I hope my two love the new food as much as your two!
How were their tummies during this changeover diet period? If Wallace has loose bowels it's such a mess on his coat. Yeuk! Oh well. Needs must.
