If you look at Bracken, the one we are trying to rehome at the moment (see rehoming section) - he is a classic example/explanation of the problems that commerical dog food can cause. As John will also tell you, we have seen many examples of dogs that are hyper just because they are fed a certain brand of dog food.
Bracken was fiercely aggressive when he came to use, resource guarding in its extreme and all because of the wheat based products he was being fed and that were passing straight through him - the poor little chap must have been starving.

In time I hope to change Cuthbert on to a RAW diet as he has had food intolerances and even Burns dry food was going right through him and he was hyper active even by puppy standards. At present he is being treated with homoeopathy and is on Chappie complete which I have been advised to continue with for the time being by his homoeopathic vet but in the future the aim is to change to someting less commercial. This however is when we know for sure his inflammation has settled and he is coping better with his food. At one point just prior to starting homoeopathy he was at vet for umpteenth GI upset (someone had given him a couple of dog biscuits the week before) where he had to get an anti infalmmatory injection. I then decided that this could not carry on so he is being treated holistically just now and as I say his diet will play a part in this too. I have read up on the junk that is put in a lot of commercial foods and am not keen to pump him full of them. Luckily hyperactivity was the only behavioural signs he showed, oh that and being very difficult to toilet train. _________________ Happiness is watching my dog chase leaves dancing in the breeze. |

John,
I had read on the internet about the euthanized cats and dogs and it totally grossed me out
So what did I do, stopped feeding tinned meat and go to greyshill and get non human consumption meat from the knackers - Duh! which would still cause the problems with diseased animals. ( I had been feeding the boys this for months)
So glad you told me about Landywoods
When I was away with the van, I had been feeding the boys butchers tripe from a tin for convenience. After seeing this will just have to figure a way to feed them raw even If I am away for a week.
Clip was very good - pity about the strong sell at the end. (though thats the only reason the clip was ever made I suppose) _________________ "In a perfect world, every dog would have a home and every home would have a dog." |

OMG after listening to the link I feel I killed my last dog. I think I need to work on changing Alfie to a RAW diet.

Alfie will love it Christine. Holly is a very fussy eater, plus she has colitis... so balancing everything out was difficult to begin with. We feed her mainly raw... but we do throw in some Lamb and Rice JWB kibble a couple of times a week to keep her 'needs' at the correct consistency. I probably dont really need to... as she just eats around it anyway!
Her teeth are immaculate... in comparison to dogs fed on commercial foods; her coat is glossy and soft; she isnt 'bouncing off the walls' all hyped up with too much protein or anything.
I dont mind handling the raw meat either... although the tripe is disgusting... the only one that makes me BOAK! (John, Holly is fine with the tripe... it had been a bit of cheese that brought on her colitis again that other time, I think). _________________ Ashley with Holly & Murphy.

Thanks Ashley I feel really bad I have wrongly thought that RAW was only suitable for bigger dogs and not for Holly and Alfie. Alfie has a really tender stomach and I thought the RAW would be to strong for him. (Im such a fool). |

On the contrary, you'll probably find it is perfect for him. We had TERRIBLE problems with Holly when we first got her. We couldnt figure out what would settle her stomach.
She has been on raw since about 5 months (albeit not completely)... although she is pretty much always fed it now! HALF an order from Landywoods lasts me AGES.. so it works out cheaper as well. I just keep a whole section of my freezer free for the meat. It comes in convenient little bags to defrost and feed.
There doesnt even need to be a "changeover" period... straight to RAW is fine. Even buy some cheap mince from tesco and give him that... he will definitely love it! That's what I did for a few months before ordering from Landywoods

The video relates to cheap tinned petfood in the US............
Quality dry food like JWB and Burns are not associated in any way Arlene so you have no need to worry _________________ John Thomson
