Sukey getting spayed tomorrow.

Is there anything I should know?
The vet has to give her anesthesia via a catheter because she has no muzzle to speak of. She's a black pug.
(Also getting Dottie the cat spayed at the same time so the pets can recover together)
She will be a year old next month and weighs about 12 pounds, and has had 1 heat.
I know not to feed her after 12 noon, and her appointment is at 2pm.

Jill i just had my dog Yoda spayed. She will be fine. Everyone told me that but i wouldn't believe it. Yoda came round in about 2 days. She didnt pee the first night back. This was due to pain. The vet said this after yet another visit. Make sure you ask them for pain killers home. My vet did not give us them and i had to go back as you could see yoda was in pain. I will think about the three of you.

she will be fine. as for pain killers ibuprofen is fine as its a pain killer and anti inflammatory.

all dogs react different, Gypsy took a couple of days to get her head clear of the anesthetic, where as Inca was fine an hour or so later, we were even called in early to get her as her yapping to get out and go home was doing there heads in Laughing

let us know how they gets on. Very Happy

most of our cats have been boys but the one female we had that we got spayed pulled out her stitches when we got her home (if not the day after) and she was fine.

Let us know how she gets on Jill..........but from experience She will recover far faster than you could imagine......just make sure she does not try to jump soon after the op.
I am sure that your vet will give you good advice.

There may be a delay.
Sukey's vet just called and said she seems to be having an allergic reaction to one of the two vaccines he administered this afternoon.
Her breathing is good, and her spirits are fine, but he said her muzzle is quite swollen.
Scary stuff!
Dottie, on the other hand, is fine.

Jill try not to worry she is in the best place to take an allergic reaction...I'm sure they will sort it out and carry out the op in a few hours. Just remember to ask what she is allergic to so you know for futrue visits and incase it happens at home so you know what to do. my dog Dora is allergic to Ambi pur air freshner plug ins and gets hives all over her body and her muzzle swells up massive, all she needs is a anti histamine and a wee cold shower and she's fine but it has taken two trips to the vet and stupid o'clock in the moring and £200 in fees to figure it out so it's worth knowing now without the extra fees.

As Lindy said try not to worry, if it is an allergic reaction to a vaccine she is in the right place for it to be treated. One question though which puzzles me. Why is she getting a vaccine just now? Is it her annual vaccinations? I hope all goes well with her. Good luck.

Looks like the worrying will be postponed until next month.
Due to the allergic reaction, the vet was reluctant to operate.
(it was an annual vaccine, two shots, one was for distemper and the other for something else but not rabies and she was also given some sort of nose drops)
But the cat came out fit as a fiddle.

I realize I never replied to let you all know how Sukey is doing.
She came through the spaying quite well.
She is getting a bit heavier but I suppose that is to be expected.
