happens to me from time to time - i think it is worse since I became self-employed!

Here are my tips...

1) get out of bed... lying there TRYING to sleep only makes it worse
2) warm up some milk... add some honey too if you like
3) little something light to eat - like a jaffa cake or something
4) take your milk and wee snack, put a low light on and go sit on the sofa
5) put something mindless on the TV / Radio - nothing loud or violent or exciting... just something quiet in the background - you aren't really going to watch it, it's just so you aren't sitting in total silence

just try and clear your mind and calm down, and relax... if there are a lot of things bothering you / things "to do" swirling around in your head, then go get a bit of paper and write them down, so that you can "forget them" for the time being...

after 15/20 mins, put the lights off and go back to bed...

Tips for not being an insomniac:

- don't read immediately before going to sleep or putting the light out - try and have 10 mins quiet time to unwind and clear your mind
- don't do work, crosswords, watch tv / films, play games or do anything that has your mind "active" in the half hour before going to bed... you are trying to clear your mind and calm down, not the opposite!
- no cheese, chocolate, tea or coffee etc in the time before you go to bed - tea has caffeinne too mind!
- try and create a wee bedtime pattern - some habits - so that your body and mind know that it is time for "sleep mode"

Hope this helps if it happens again...

Lx
