Does anyone know of anyone reputable who could come and help us with this blasted machine. It has been playing up for months and is now doing a good impression of of a very fractious elderly delinquent. Emails + PM's freeze for ages while being written sometimes it takes ages to get into and out of the computer. My account (side) behaves completey differently to M's and all sorts of other weird things are happening. SO ... any suggestions anoi See what I mean?

Thanks Marcella,
we are already considering your first suggestion but there is a some stuff on here we would like to transfer and or back up but we have to be sure it wouldn't do the same to a new system. C3 is that in the original town centre bit, next to where the flower shop was? I'll tell M and he can think it over when he comes in.

How old is the computer ? You could always back up your files either to DVD or better still a cheap external hard disk then reinstall windows.

It's about 8 or 9 years old . M's thinking about an external hard drive but we are neither of us very knowledgeable about the workings of the thing so I think we'd best get someone in who knows their way around it. Thanks all.

probably a new computer is the way to go 8-9 years is pretty old for a computer. http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.901-2516.aspx
this seems ideal if you want something cheap just for surfing the web and storing music.
Tesco have some good deals at times.

In computing terms......it is an antique.......replacement is the only way to go....really not worth spending money trying to upgrade..........you would struggle to get the parts the suit.

freezing PM's... sounds like too much crap in internet explorer?

www.firefox.com, click free download and install it... allow it to take control..

firefox is an internet explorer replacement which is designed to be simple and it is faster then internet explorer by miles. Firefox is much safer when going on dodgy internet pages.

It also eats RAM and on an 8+ year old computer I would expect it to blow up Shocked

Before thinking about buying a PC you should think about what you want to do differently with the PC than what you did when you first bought it - that might help you make up your mind if you NEED a new PC or you need a spring clean

Hope this helps

Thanks guys. I managed to get someone in to help and basically it is old and wearing down. He cleaned out a lot of old junk but the problem is mostly its age. So for now it's repaired but in the not too distant future we shall have to replace the processor(?) but we've got a bit of breathing space to decide on exactly our needs. By the way we are already running Mozilla but the Kapersky anti virus is what is really slowing it down but it is good and I'm told very necessary. Thanks.

This may be a silly question but how do I back up my PC system? There are new XP updates waiting to be installed but the pre installation message advises me to back up my system. I've never done this I don't think or with my PC's age and health should I leave well alone? Embarassed Confused
