hi as some of you know i am looking at Breading Roonie my 4 year old Black GSD.......

after a long search for the best stud (in my opinion....but obviously not Roonie's) i chose a lovely mellow natured black and tan GSD. he is lovely and calm and totally gorgeous...........no Janis don't say it ........ we checked Blood, Hips, Pedigree ETC ETC...............

however, my problem is that although Roonie was flagging and showing all the right signs of being ready to mate she refused point blank to let him anywhere near her...............

I spoke to some of you lot........Janis, Alan, Shirley....at class and although we never came up with any good answers we had a lot of laughs Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy mostly at my expense Embarassed Laughing

so all you budding breeders out there can you give me any tips to make Roonie more accepting of her chosen partner Question

he is very laid back and not at all dominant and she only had to look at him to have him scurrying over to the other end of the garden...and apparently experienced as he has a proven stud record and is stud registered........he has sired many litters (this obviously didn't impress our Roonie)

her season is finished know and i am looking at trying for a final time at her next season

If the stud dog is experienced then I would think its owners would be experienced in this kind of thing..Have you asked for their help?

Some bitches just won't stand.. and don't want to.. (which I think speaks volumes)

Geri....... BAD Girl!!!! Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Margaret,

It could be as has been said above that she is just not interested Confused It could also be that for her own reasons she hasn't taken a liking to the partner you have so carefully selected for her and won't ever allow him near - it could be distressing to both dogs to try and force the issue. Maybe she wants to pick her own partner - perhaps a more dominant one? - Hey MURPHY......you doin anything in about 6 months time? Twisted Evil

Many moons ago I decided to let my first tabby moggy have a litter before I had her speyed. I decided as she was from outside the area and non pedigree to allow her to well pick her own mate. You should have seen her - she had ALL the really beautiful boys from the neighbourhood - really stunning well conditioned pets lined up in a semi circle around her itching to get to grips with her. She teased them something rotten refusing to allow ANY of them within 2 feet of her Rolling Eyes . Inevitably a fight broke out and what did my Tiggy do? Yep, that's right - legged it with the scruffiest, mankiest, battlescarred scraggy ruffian that had sat waiting patiently on the fringe of all the frantic activity and they trotted off into the sunset together Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Sometimes I'm afraid nature just WILL have it's way despite your best intentions. Laughing

thanks everyone.......

i did think that a more dominant dog was required after seeing him together.........but it has taken me so long to pick this one i really don't think that 6 months is time enough to find another.......

she was willing to stand for the guys little spaniel and his Jack Russell but again i think it was to show that she was the boss and that she would allow another dog but not him.

the BREEDER (just for you Geri) told me to bring Breagha and allow them to play around and feel more relaxed ...............however because he had submitted to her at first she wouldn't let him near her. she wasn't attacking him she was just bearing her teeth...

Breagha on the other hand was such a slut she kept rolling on Roonie and presenting herself to him..........the owner was in fits of laughter........the one i wanted to be interested wasn't and the other was almost raping him.

feel free to join in John and lower the tone after all you missed out last Thursday when i can assure you the tone was below the gutter Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Embarassed
