This is probably a silly question but I'll ask it anyway. Since his op Cuthbert has been ravenous and is always looking for more food. (He has been wormed fairly recently so it's not that). I have pretty much switched him to RAW food, usually twice a day. I was wondering is the RAW food less filling than the dried food and therefore he doesn't feel as full (I know it's more nutritious) or do I just have to up his intake anyway as at the moment I have to supplement him with extra dried food which isn't ideal.

how much raw are you giving him ?

my two get half a pound a day and they are fine on it! they are always up for anything else and that is where kendal and i take advantage of their hunger and do a bit of training!

check with john but i would say that a pound a day would be fine for him!

About 900 grammes a day (2packets of Prize Choice). Just to prove the point I nipped downstairs to check the weight of the Prize Choice to find he has just devoured 1/2 packet of butter which I thought was safely out of reach plus he hasn't been bothering recently about stealing!! Rolling Eyes

Oh and hat food amount is just his meals and doesn't included dried food titbits during the day.

The rule of thumb is around 2% of the dogs 'desiered' body weight..........my gsd's get on average 2lb meat or mince plus bones per day...it they look heavy I cut back a little.....to lean I add to this.

His feeding is working out at apprx 1.75lbs and he's STILL hungry. Just up it or maybe give him one big meal rather than 2 smaller ones then see how he goes from there? His weight at present is 24.75 kgs or nearly 55 lbs.

I would say weight wise he is probably getting enough but maybe up it to 2lbs for a few days and see if he is still as greedy...if he starts putting on weight with that, then he is getting too much and if he is still as greedy i would get him back to 1.75....just a case of trial and error

My mum told me Luka was getting fat, vet today says he is fine...Allan thinks he is fine, I still think he is fat, but then again the rest of my lot are lurchers and whippets Very Happy

How do you know he's hungry? And not just being a typical dog - ie mmm look a that, that looks good, smells nice, can I get a bit, can I, can I.

He's maybe just loving his new diet so much he could eat it all day. Bit like me and Cheddar McCoys.
