Grace, I've got to be honest my attitude is I don't care if it's curing or masking so long as it works and everyone stays safe - I don't mean that as harshly as it's written - it's hard to word things sometimes online isn't it?
I think, in time, it DOES cure the issue and a simple command rather than distraction does work (did with mine anyway but I've always backed things up vocally as well as physically with my lot) but I find sticking with what you and your dog knows best and what works is always the preferable option - best not to push it if you are in any doubt - go with your dogs body language - if he/she appears hyper tense then stick with the distraction technique, if they're more relaxed then try the vocal command to get them used to the switch gradually _________________ Staffies are my life!
