Off to the vet tonight - Otto has a lump on his chest. It feels like a little cyst or abscess about the size of 5p just under the skin.

My one consolation is that should it need drained and a stitch he can't lick it and therefore no collar.

Hope Otto is Ok, do you think he's ran into a stick again? Hek had more lumps on his neck again last week, turns out was recurring reaction to the antibiotics a few weeks ago Rolling Eyes they are almost gone but I had a panic for a bit!

No John, as far as I can tell, Pointers aren't prone to anything much (wirehaired one are interestingly).

Judging by the way he was tearing about Dunbar beach on Saturday, it's not affecting him.

Having done my internet vet thing, it MAY be a lipoma which is a benign lump of fat cells common on or near the chest of young dogs. But given my degree is in English and Psychology don't hold me to that.

Fortunately he loves the vet as much as he loves him - he wants a GSP but his wife won't let him Laughing

I'm not too concerned - he's not under the weather so hopefully something small, easy and CHEAP!

Aw get well wishes to Otto Suzanne!!!!! Sorry to hear this, everything crossed for you that it is nothing more than a fatty cyst, quite common in a lot of short haired dogs.....or maybe it's just that they're more noticeable? Confused

It would appear that Vlad the Impaler has had another fight with a foreign object on one of his forays into the undergrowth.

It seems to be reducing so the vet said just to leave it and if it doesn't go away of its own accord he'll get some antibiotics. Failing that, he will have another scar, but hopefully won't come to that.

Tell you, that dog needs body armour - short hair and speed searches of woods are not compatible. Actually, getting him a jacket might be a good idea.

Hi Suzanne.

Glad this lump is not serious.

I think he needs a Kevlar jacket.
