Just wondering what's normal after your females have been dressed, Tara is panting a lot and obviously she can't get comfortable and she has now got a wee cough and breathing heavily.... And there has been spots of blood do you know if any of this is normal? Sad

i really dont know, do you think it makes any deference that she has had litters before being done. our girls were done before there first season, so i dont even know much about that.

try giving her some ibuprofen to see if that will make her more comfortable. is she drinking and eating ok.

Claire, sorry only just seen this...........

Panting and coughing though disturbing is perfectly normal - I'd get her to the vets just in case though as she might have a minor infection and might need antibiotics hence the overheating and panting - alternatively they DO do that as they are a tad hot from the fact we tend to up the temperature in our homes to try and keep them snuggly after their op but they can easily overheat because of this. I'd still say a definate yes to the vets for a once over though.

Coughing is perfectly normal too, this is caused by the anaesthetic tube being pushed down their trachea to keep them sedated for the op that'll clear up in a few days. Spotting again can be normal but again JUST IN CASE it's worth mentioning to the vets when you visit.

Ella and Rosie had all of these syptoms and were fine (if you take Rosie's severe phantom pregnancy out of the equation) Mitzi, my first love and Staffie, also had all of those and again was fine.

TRY not to worry babe but do get her checked out just to be on the safe side and in the meantime, give her a little crushed ice to help lower her temperature and soothe her throat OH and don't forget the obligatory kisses and cuddles off me to help her through.xxxxxxxxxxx

No problem hunny, just let me know how she gets on and as much as I might be the voice of reason here when my Rosie was ill I was frantic so I do understand how you feel and completely support you in getting her in to the vets for a check over, Better safe than sorry and she is WAY too beautiful to be allowed to suffer Wink

Also if you have any carrots, chop one up into chunky strips and freeze for at least an hour then give them to her one at a time to gnaw on, that'll be softer on her teeth and gums but still soothing for her throat as well as getting additional vitamins into her system to help her fight any possible infection Smile

Absolute pleasure hunny......I COULD encourage you to go the whole hog and have a chilled flannel on standby to mop her fevered brow....much like I did for my Rosie Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed YES I REALLY did!!!! But she was very very poorly after her op and Tara doesn't have any of the symptoms Rosie did so don't you start worrying! Wink It's a big op for a girl and she is a big girl so naturally she'd suffer a bit more than a teeny dog, try not to worry too much but if you notice something else that worries you just shout and I'll reply as soon as I see your message.xxxxxxx < pass em on.

Look forward to hearing all about her swift recovery Smile
