Outside peeing?!

Any tips on getting Tia to 'perform' when outside and on the lead?

In two weeks she has never done anything while on the lead -- we can got for a long walk and nothing. If she comes off the lead she will do the necessary. It's the same in the garden. No lead = result, lead = nothing. I've even been walks with other dogs to see if she can learn from them.

I'm beginning to wonder if it is a control thing with her. Of course she can only be off the lead some of the time so she needs to learn.

I will just keep trying and I am sure she will get it, but right now I am convinced she is as dumb as a box of spanners! LOL

have you introduced a command like pee pee or be clean. to do that just say the word every time she goes then she should associate the word with peeing, then she should do it when you say it. and ,make it sound happy like it is the best thing in the world to do.

Take her on a walk on the lead. Do not let her off until she pees.

When she pees give praise.

I don't know about your girl but my two have this little routine when they pee off lead. They sniff the ground and then start circling when they find a spot they like. As they get more desperate the circle becomes smaller and they speed up suddenly dropping when they get to the centre of this invisible circle and do their biz Rolling Eyes

It's like a routine they have gotten themselves into as they do it every single time! I think they had a little trouble learning it was OK to pee whilst on lead as they couldn't perform this weird little pre-pee dance but one day desperation kicked in and they realised - "hey I can pee without circling" and have never looked back Very Happy

That said - they do prefer to do their biz in their own back yard if they can hold on and rarely poop outside of our garden on or off the lead (Rosie excluded as that girl has no class!!!). I don't mind in the slightest if they wait as it's much easier to clean up at home than whilst we're out. Cool

I think dogs feel vulnerable when they go to the toilet so if there's anything they're unsure about they'll hang onto it whenever possible until they feel safe - this could be a contributing factor too.

Your girl will get it sussed she's still very very young just hang on in there Wink

Poppy will not pee outside. She goes immediately we return to the house straight out through the dog flap to her favourite spot. Basil has a favourite place down the glen, but he will go wherever he needs to.

Tikka was also like this until she got a bit older, althou shes still a wee pup really lol!
As mentioned praise and treat when she does do on lead and they soon learn, its all about confidence too, i know that sounds daft but it is!

Sorry I should have said I agree with Kendal too - our phrase is "do a wee-wee" Embarassed

Even in the house if I think it's about time they went and they haven't told me they want to go I'll ask "who wants a wee-wee" and they go bombing for the backdoor. They don't mess about they do what they have to and scoot back in - especially today - it's oh I swore freezing out there and my pooches do like to be warm and snuggly Very Happy
