Yoda ill Please Help

thanks so much for all you kind words. I went for a second opinion this afternoon they advised the exact same thing. DEfo auto immune. All she wants to do is sleep. The blisters are getting worse. They have said that biopsy will be done asap on her nose and ears. Meanwhile they are blasting with steroids and bio tics. They have said she will be on long term immune suppressants.

I don't know if this means she cant play with other dogs because she will be so susceptible to illness with her immune system being non existent. Both vet practices said this is going to be a costly matter .

I don't care as long as she gets well.

STILL sending you those positive thoughts Amanda, keep your chin up and keep us posted as things go on.

Something I found that helped when Mitz was ill with Cushings was research - to ensure I understood what the vets were telling me (though only I once I KNEW for certain what we were dealing with) and I also had a strong input in the decision as to what meds we would try her on. I also, in my calmer less hysterical moments, compiled a list of questions I had that I wanted answering to make sure, no matter how upset I might get at the vets, that I would ask everything I needed to ensure I understood fully what was happening and why - that might help you be a little more prepared when you next visit - make sure you include the question as to whether she can safely mix with other dogs (can't see a problem with that myself as if you take her outdoors she'll pass where they pass and do their toilet anyway). Also I'd ask if they have any idea why this suddenly reared it's head now - something must have triggered it if you know what it was you might be able to prevent such a strong reaction in future

she is such a lovely friendly dog
as Jack says it is early days and the first thing you need is a firm diagnosis, this will allow you to understand more about the illness and its treatment. I presume you are waiting for the vet school apptment, hope it comes through very soon.

hi everyone hope you are well.
When jack had the same problem the vet didn't know what had caused it. It was thought to be an allergy or autoimmune. Jack was given amoxicillin first of all which didn't help at all. Then he got steroids which really helped and cleared it up after a week or so. I also cleaned the wounds with warm salty water to stop them getting infected. Jack didn't like it but it seemed to help. Why are long term steroids needed? I thought that would only be if it was definitely autoimmune?

thanks Graeme. She is going in for op tomorrow. she is getting biopsy taken from eyes, Nose and ears. They said def autoimmune. The biopsy is to find out which one. They said she will be started on immune suppressants and pregnisalone (Steroid) imeprazole for her stomach.

I got a 2nd opinion yesterday and he also said the same. I will keep my fingers crossed that it would be an allergy. You never know they are not right all the time.

I will try the salt water wash. I have a steroid cream on it.

she is a poor sole. Everything went ok. She lost a bit of blood. She just wanted out of the vets. I dont think she is speaking to us.We should get the results of biopsy's on Monday. The vet is defo convinced it is an auto immune.

yes there is defo an improvement. Her eyes dont look s severe. However, she is not happy about the cone around her head.

I HATE those cones!!!! Fortunately my pups have never needed them or my legs would be a mess - they used to barge into us ALL the time add a cone to the mix and it would have been hell!!! Nowadays I have taught them more about respecting OUR space so they don;t do it anywhere near as much.


SO glad that Yoda is showing improvements, I know you have been and indeed ARE worried sick but hopefully this will be very controllable - focus on that hun and please do keep us updated of her progress.xxxxxxx

Yes janis i am going. My dad is watching yoda. I would not b going but this was a present to my mum.
