|
|
We are considering a crate for Hektor. Not because he is destructive at all but he likes to lie on the couch when we are not there, he isnt allowed when we ARE there!
We are getting a new sofa and do not want him on it at all.
Our house is pretty much open plan so we cant just lock him in the kitchen (too small and there was that pesky gas turning on stunt he pulled -twice!). The other option was maybe getting one of those convertible baby play pens and barricading him in the dining room (will need to get rid of the table!). I dont think he would try to jump the barrier, but I thought the crate would be more flexible. I think he will cope OK with a crate, he's never had a problem at the Vets or kennels.
I've had a look on ebay and gone through the old posts here on the forum but they all seem a bit small.
Anyone got any ideas/info?

We have both ours in Savic crates, great quality and really easy to fold away and assemble again.
http://www.canineconcepts.co.uk/item--Savic-Dog-Crate-Dog-Cage--savic-dog-crate---dogs
They have a 'giant' crate suitable for Great Danes:
Giant
SAVIC
Dog Crate
L,W,H
(118x76x88cm)
Bernese
Newfoundland
Great Dane

This site have a variety of crates up to size Giant which should be big enough for a Great Dane and the prices for some are pretty good

That should be big enough Ross!
I'm having problems finding a so-called Giant crate that is tall enough for him. I dont want him squashed in. The XXL crates I have seen are only 33" high but Hektors shoulder height is 36"", I'd really need something around the 48" height so he can stand relaxed.
Possibly going to have to go along the tall baby gate route for keeping him in the dining room but Colin not so keen...he's threatening an outdoor kennel for my boy

What about screwing a large threaded 'O' ring into the floor or a wall joist and tethering him to that? Bit of lateral thinking _________________ Steve Young

Thats what we'd originally thought but although we took out the expensive insurance to cover every eventuality (including 'animal bodily fluid' ) am worried his big lolloping feet might rip it, thats whats happened to the cruddy 2nd hand one we are replacing!
Next question...anyone know where to get inexpensive very very large washable throws?

I have the best plan which will kill 10 birds with one stone !
" ANY ONE LIKE TO SWAP THEIR GOLDFISH FOR A GREAT DANE ????"
YOU DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT A GOLFISH SLABBERING OR RIPPING THE NEW COUCH,
NEEDING TO BUY ESTATE CARS ,STRESSING ABOUT THE FACT "YOU THINK" YOU SHUT THE KITCHEN DOOR WHEN YOU ARE HALF WAY TO SHOPS AND THAT DIPPY WONT BE TURNING ON THE GAS FOR YOU,STRESSFULL WALKS SCARED TO MEET ANY ANIMAL,MINERAL OR VEGETABLE IN CASE OF A FIGHT,"MASSIVE" VET BILLS INCURRED BY THE HYPOCONDRIACT DANE,NOT ABLE TO HAVE A CARPET IN THE LIVING ROOM AS EVERY TIME HE DRINKS ,HE DROOLS "WHITE HORSES" AND HAVING TO STILL HAVE A STAIR GATE EVEN WHEN YOUR KIDS ARE 6 AND 8 COS 65 KILO OF DOG AINT GOOD LANDING ON YER BITS AT 3AM UNINVITED!!!
BUT HEY !
ITS A SMALL PRICE TO PAY !!!!!!

So long as you feel better for it now!!!
I think you need to keep the existing sofa somewhere - just for Hek, job done _________________ Staffies are my life! Visit us at www.staffies.co.uk |
