crate chewing!

Hi all

Our little girl is in a crate for a short period three times a week (typically for no more than three hours). She never seems distressed by this and is happy to go into it. When I get ready to go out she knows the signs and quite happily runs into the crate and sits. When I come in she never seems distressed. I have asked neighbours if they have ever heard any howling and they say no.

So the problem -- it looks like she is either pawing or gnawing at the metal bars on the front door of the crate. There are smalls signs on the bars of missing paint. I've had a poke around her teeth and I think the back of her canine teeth are rough.

I wondered about smearing something unpleasant on the bars -- any suggestions welcome

bitter apple spray. very good taste deterrent, but make sure you either spray some in her mouth first or soak some cotton wool in it and pop that in her mouth so she gets the full taste of it. most of the people i have spoken to who say bitter apple didnt work never did this.

just be careful though you dont want her to change the way she sees the crate.

i would also suggest setting up a camcorder when leaving her so you can see what it is that she is doing.
